Suburban papers cut jobs

The Globe reports GateHouse Media is laying off 35 employees and not filling 25 vacant positions at its Massachusetts papers - including the Quincy Patriot-Ledger, which cut 130 jobs last fall.

ah, but the Patriot Ledger

got rid of their presses in the fall and so those 130 were pressmen and insert-stuffers, apparently...not the same category of cuts. Let's not make this worse than it is...people love to talk about the demise of newspapers (and they love to blame the bloggers, who love to talk about the newspapers, which fact seems to go unremarked)...and I worry that the difficulty newspapers are having in monetizing their Web sites is exacerbated by a general air of "you guys are toast."

Not trying to sugar-coat things, just trying to rein in the horses of the Apocalypse.

Sure

But I didn't realize there was all that much left to cut at the Gatehouse papers; it's not like they've ever been overstocked.
