Just In Case You Didn't Know

The Night Owl service has been cancelled in Boston as of last night (Friday, 24th). My sister and I just spent an hour waiting for it in front of the Boston Common theater, before and MBTA official informed us it wouldn't be coming then, or anytime in the future.. And good luck hailing a cab down there... That took an additional hour and fifteen minutes.....

Odd, were there not enough cabs lined up in front of the theatre? I don't usually put myself at risk for missing the last train, but there's always been cabs out front of the theatre late at night when I'm there. They must not have accounted for the end of night owl service.

Alternatively, you can put the ph# of a cab company in your cell phone and in good weather you'll have a cab in a couple of minutes; I put in boston cab assoc, 536.5010.

get a clue people.... There were over a hundred and twenty people coming out of the theater all at once last night... There were plenty of cabs, but not for one hundred people at once... Most of the passing cabs were taken, and the ones that weren't neglected to stop. I've got the numbers for several cab companies in my phone, and when I called, they refused to take reservations at that time of night and suggested that I "just try to hail one down."

What time was this taking place?

My better one is that I paid $130 to see National Treasure. I took my Neice to the movies, Boston Common theater. I could have taken the Silverline, but was running late as usual. So I parked illegally hoping that no one would be ticketing on the weekend. Well someone was still on the job, and my illigal spot was handicapped (if I have know it was a handicapped spot I would have keep looking). The ticket was for $120 - so I paid it. I was wrong. The movie was good, but not that good!

Over the past week, I've seen multiple posted signs in just about every T station announcing "NIGHT OWL SERVICE CANCELLED".

I do wonder why they ended it in the middle of a weekend, though. It would have been much easier to explain that it was being cancelled starting in July.

That would be helpful if you actually WERE in a T-station.. If the station is locked, as it is after the trains stop running (when a person would actually need the Night Owl service), signs inside the station aren't all that helpful... And there were none posted at the Night Owl bus-stops at Boston Common or Park Street.

sorry if my responses were "snarky," I was annoyed at the situation, and at responses like "did you consider calling a cab on your cell phone?" were slightly....irritating...

I certainly would've liked to have known beforehand, before I spent 2 hours in downtown Boston in the middle of the night. I posted the thread just in case there are any other oblivious Bostonians like me who weren't aware.....
