Dour about flour

Jo alerts us to an apparent shortage of flour, at least in the 50-pound bags that restaurants would buy.

No press coverage?

How interesting that the US press is almost completely ignoring what appears to be a worldwide trend- all I could find were local stories about pizzerias by small town papers, and apparently they're all buying up flour like crazy to stock up, which is making the shortage worse. Can't instill panic in the masses, I suppose.

Then again- is it really a shortage, or Sysco a)trying to keep from losing money or b)exaggerating the shortage to jack up the price on what they can get?

Yikes!

The counter tops are being installed today. Stove and water get hooked up tomorrow.

Here I am looking to buy ginormous quantities of flour to knead into breads and make pies and make cakes and use all that glorious granite counter space acquired through a full kitchen redesign and the special stand-alone baking center I built ... and ... THERE IS A FLOUR SHORTAGE!

(curls up into a ball and weeps).

I blame ethanol. Seriously. Ethanol.

Good Timing On My Part

I gave up flour products for Lent.

So you're a gluten for punishment

Yes, that was a rye comment.

Sprue you!

I think you spelt that

I think you spelt that incorrectly.

Hmmm...

Everyone sure is on a roll with these bread comments...

I Usually Get Involved In These

Sorry, I just feel like loafing today.

Bread takes more dough these days

The whole thing has turned

pretty sour!

It was the yeast they could do

They offer some proof of the rise in prices. Sour dough, indeed.
