Brutally mean tow-truck operator in Brookline

Jim Conley reports:

... Even without 4 inches of snow as justification to grab a car, the town's towing company is out of control. I heard today of an elderly woman's car being towed from the curb at 100 Centre Street despite her handicapped placard and her pleas–and those of a Brookline police officer– not to tow. Away it went. ...

"despite her handicapped placard and her pleas–and those of a Brookline police officer– not to tow. Away it went..."

Wait...the tow truck driver disobeyed the cop? Isn't that an arrestible offense?

In Boston it is

I've seen a tow driver get cuffed for ignoring a cop before - it involved an accident where the cop directed someone to pull off into a tow zone to clear the street.

It isn't pleading in Boston, it's an order to move on.

Which spells, of course, "Snow emergency, except handicapped people"?

Go read the link - no snow emergency was in effect at the time.

To be fair

That was an update; the original post made it sound like it was during a declared snow emergency (understandable given that Brookline doesn't have alert cats).

Any vehicle that gets towed off a public street in Massachusetts needs the authority of the POLICE department to tow that vehicle. And an inside source tells me that NO vehicles were towed off of Centre St. that day in Brookline. I bet the vehicle was on private property and the private tow company needed to remove all vehicles from that parking lot so they could plow it for the storm. Police would have no authority to tell a tow company not to tow a vehicle from private property where it is clearly posted that vehicles could be towed.

So much for "inside

So much for "inside sources". I never said the towing occurred yesterday. I said I heard about it yesterday and the towing companies are out of control.

Good to see BPD is chasing down tow records for anonymous posters...

either way...

the story can't be true. Call 617-730-2222, and the Brookline Police will tell you if any vehicles were towed on any specific day, and for what reason. Impossible for a Towtruck driver to tow a vehicle on a public street without the police signing off on it and keeping a record of the tow. I don't believe you and your story that you "heard". Also anonymous I would say.
