Goofus and Gallant, Criminal Edition

Well, we haven't had a good Northeastern party story lately. Boston Police report on an alleged Goofus at a boisterous bash around 3 this morning at 3 Folsom St. on Mission Hill.

When the squad cars arrived, most people left, but, police say, this one dude began mouthing off and refusing to tell them who he was. Even still, police say, they let him go. Then officers heard somebody banging on the door - along with a chorus of other residents complaining about it. Dude!

Officers then told the suspect that if he did not stop banging on the door he would be placed under arrest for being a Disorderly Person. As officers were going back in the apartment, the suspect pushed the door striking the officers.

So now he gets to plead innocent in Roxbury District Court to assault and battery on a police officer and disturbing the peace.

Criminal Gallant is a South Boston teen arrested yesterday evening for allegedly stealing a woman's wallet at the Shaw's at 370 Western Ave. in Brighton. When oficers found him on Lincoln Street and radioed to have the victim brought over, he allegedly told police:

"That's me! I'm the suspect. I took the lady's wallet. It's in my pocket."

Not to be all defensive - I mean, odds may be in your favor - but where do you get "Northeastern" or "student" outta this police item?

Google Maps can't find Folsom Street on Mission Hill at all. It keeps trying to take me to Dorchester or Roslindale. Yahoo Maps is no better.

(The BPDNews blog headline mentions "Student" but the actual blog entry doesn't use the word at all.)

3 Folsom Ave. is on this stubby little thing on Mission Hill, just off Parker. Even the BPD sometimes gets "streets" and "avenues" mixed up.

Now I wonder why neither Google's nor Yahoo's maps suggested this as an alternative.

The headline on the item (written by somebody at the police department) is:

Hard Headed Student Ends Up in Jail

Then I just went to Facebook and typed the guy's name in. There's a Northeastern student by that name (actually reversed, so where the police have X.Y., he goes by Y.X. on Facebook) and age.

And this, kids, is why I got a Facebook account in the first place, not to keep up with the comings and goings of my ever widening social circle.

And here I thought you approved my friend request because you were genuinely interested in who I was dating, what I am reading, and whose photos I am commenting on!

Oh, I am now!

But back in the day, before people over the age of 23 had discovered Facebook, there were only two real reasons to get an account: Stare at tiny photos of college women (or men, as the case may be) or see if you could match up names in Mission Hill/Brighton police-blotter items with local colleges.
