Chips on their shoulders: Globe fries one critic

The Globe these days can't seem to leave well enough alone - it's developed this compulsion to declare every lifestylish thing it writes about a trend. Adam Reilly notes the latest example: A food-section story that declares French fries to be the new culinary trend:
In fact, fries have become so popular that they're an academic study.
Unfortunately for the Globe, Reilly actually reads the study the paper refers to and discovers it has absolutely nothing to do with the alleged growing popularity of French fries in America.
Earlier trends uncovered by the Globe:
NH ice fishing on the rise.
Migration of Bostonians to Vt. to become cheesemakers on the rise.
Beagles on the rise.

Today's offering from the Globe: If you lose your job don't sleep at the YMCA because it is icky.
