Allegedly juiced-up Boston cops under investigation

The Globe injects the news:

As many as a dozen officers have been summoned to appear before a federal grand jury investigating steroid use and after-hours parties in the Boston Police Department - an offshoot of a probe that led to the convictions of three patrolmen last year, according to three law enforcement officials familiar with the case.

More than just cops trying to get buff

David Bernstein, who's been writing about this sort of stuff at the Phoenix for awhile now, cautions:

... Once the identities of the steroid-buying officers becomes public, the city is likely to get hit with a heavy round of litigation from citizens whose claims to have been roughed up by those cops were ignored; those claims will look very different, in retrospect, when juiced-up cops were involved. ...
