Finally, a use for all those Yellow Book directories

Jason posts a video that reminds us how truly creative college students can be and reports that the Globe is doing a story on the whole Yellow Book earth-crushing controversy:
It would be nice for this issue to gather some more steam and become a topic of discussion for City Hall.

An Even Better Use

Wow! He's B00Ked!
That was quite the prank. So much time - he must be well loved.
It is up there with the walling in of a room on my friend's floor at CalTech (they redid the wall and moved a light to make one guy's door not exist any more), and my brother and his friends collecting every alarm clock they could borrow, setting them 5 minutes apart, and hiding them in the resident assistant's room here and there.
Phone Books Are A Total Waste
I wrote about this a while back, they need to move to an opt-in policy for phone books, and for ATM receipts.
Five-foot long grocery receipts, too
Nice that they're categorized now, but, oh my God, try fitting one into your wallet now. And I'm looking at you, too, CVS.
As for ATM reciepts, some banks now ask you if you want them. At least mine does, for fast-cash withdrawals.
ATM receipts
I understand the environmental benefit of suppressing them, but I like to keep them for a few weeks so I can reconcile my checking account with the next monthly statement.
ATM
If I don't get a receipt for an ATM transaction, and then put it into a pocket that I will definitely fish through when I get home - say with my actual money - then I'm very likely to not record the transaction in my ledger and a month or so from now I'll be cursing while trying to figure out what happened to that $100 I absolutely knew was in my account.
That's why, when Watertown Savings ATMs ask me if I want a receipt for this transaction, I always push the "Yes" button. I'm probably missing some wonderful technological advance that could save me all of this angst, but I'm pretty dumb.

Wonderful technological advance
Like downloading the records directly from your bank into Quicken, perhaps?
It'll make those finger calluses you got from the abacus go away too.
Luddite
No internet connection at home, Gareth.
(Which, of course, let's all of you know that I'm always posting from work, and if my boss is reading this - a wonderful man and I'm not just saying that because he holds my life in his hands - I thank you from the bottom of my heart.)

Not Luddite, but
I still keep a manual ledger of my checking account. Like Suldog, if I don't have an ATM receipt, I'm not likely to remember to enter the debit into the ledger when I get home.
On the other hand, I hardly ever write checks anymore, except for donations to charities. I love online bill-paying.
"Companion Directory" pint size phone books.
Check out the "Companion Directory" pint size phone books.
Getting the hang of using the new "Companion Directory" pint size format phone books takes a bit of effort. The listings and adverts are useful. There are coupons.
what are they?
I've never seen anything around here by that name. Here in Somerville, we get Verizon, Yellow Book, and occasionally a small one called LocalTel.
