Man dies in hail of bullets outside Dorchester bar featured in 'Gone Baby Gone'

Boston Police report David Tyrone Williams, 22, died after being shot outside Cataloni's Bar, 3 Upham Ave., shortly after midnight today.
Channel 4 reports nearby residents heard as many as ten shots.
He is Dorchester's 11th murder victim this year.

the best way to deter gun violence?
With all the activity in Roslindale today, is it a good bet the homicide was a result of yesterday's shooting/standoff?
If Swirlygrl is right about the two factors that correlate highly to this kind of crime, we're in for a rough stretch of violent crime not the least of which we can anticipate from gangbangers living in the housing project in Roslindale. These shootings sure like like gang bangers work.
What are the most effective means of disappated gang bang violence? Does policing work? Does it require community engagement as in activist reverends reaching out to gang bangers? I'd like to see the smartest approach applied. Collateral damage is unacceptable.
What are the two factors?
Poor people and guns? No seriously, am I missing something? Is this different from NY or LA or Chicago? You don't neeed a PHD to figure this stuff out.
Bulldoze it all down, I say! Bulldoze it, or build a wall around it.
Two Factors
1) teens and young adults becoming a substantial and rising percentage of the population
2) tanking economy/weak employment prospects for teens and young adults
Put them together and you get a NO FUTURE cohort bent on mayhem. (Did Johnny Rotten diffuse a demographic bomb?? Question for another time.)
The genius of the CCC and other Depression era programs lie in offering more than the Wobblies and other anti-democratic recruiters could offer to work for Uncle Sam rather than overthrow the democratic capitalist regime. Roosevelt saw how the Nazi's and other facist regimes recruited a large population of idle youths and worked on programs that occupied their time and developed their loyalty. While these programs were touted as "economic stimulus" that wasn't their point - they were actively counter-revolutionary.
Gangs and suicide bombing organizers are equally adept at recruiting the same No Future crowd.

The location is interesting. Ben Afleck shot portions of Gone Baby Gone in this bar. Although it has lots of "local" flavor, its also known as a rough place. Hopefully it will Close Baby Close.
This really does not
This really does not surprise me. I seen this coming 3 years ago. Our wonderful Mayor pushed for cuts in programs to stop the violence. I lived through the first wave of violence through 1985 to 1995, through these years Boston streets were at their most violent. I recall reporters having to wear bullet proof vests. And even some Fire Depts wore them also along with EMTs.
The Programs that were enacted worked, the murder rates lowered. It was grass roots and got to the kids while they were in middle school and high school. It worked. but our politicians lack foresight. Cutting these programs, only cut Bostons throat in the future. To keep the violence off the streets these programs need to be in effect. thinking that since the crime rate has dropped, they can drop these programs, WRONG! The reason the rate has drop is because of the programs, And thats just more of a reason to keep them going, even when times are good. There is always a new crop of kids, and they all need to be taught violence is wrong.
So thank our fine Mayor and his cronies for this blunder. It looks to me he cares more about Hyde Park than Boston..

Money Bags your life was cut down short in these deverstating streets and you was taken away from us all by a spineless, coward. If you were so bold to take someone's life then why run and hide. Why not stand there and be the man that you call yourself. Because your not a man just in a shell that you crawl and hide around in and you boast to your so called friends that think that you are somebody, but your not nothing at all. Who gave you the right to take away something that you could never replace. You may feel on top of the world now but trust and believe that sooner or later and it will be a lot sooner than you think you will feel the same thing that you have done. You have his blood on his hands and no matter how much you wash them you will always have his blood on your hands forever! I pray that when your time comes and it will be soon that the Lord will have mercy upon your spineless soul, you litte coward! You will not realize what you have done until you constantly see his face in your dreams and everytime you close your eyes you will see his face. You feel disgrace. But your a big man and you stole something that did not belong to you MONEY BAGS! Yes that was and guess what it still is his name and that maybe that last name you remember when the time comes for you to face your maker! We are all consumed by deep woe for what has happened to you. The fam feels straight anguish and pain and can't shake the thoughts that just play over and over in our heads of what you had to go through that night. 22 and had all the potential in the world. It took you leaving us to make many of us realize what we have been missing in this world. And it has made us come together as a real family should. I'll always remember your positive talk, your bright smile, and your sweet heart. We are so devestated that no one has come forward. But the guilty will be found and will be persecuted. It will all be revealed in time. Until then, we keep praying for you and your family. You will be missed and are loved so much.

Money Bags you will never be forgotten. Your life was cut down short from us. It wouldn't hurt so much if you had died from a illness or some diease or even an incurrable disease. But you was taken away by a stray of bullets that someone intentenionlly ment to do to you. And that is why the pain is so great. God did not give no one the right or permission to take you away from us like that and we will not forget it. We will not give up on finding who did this to you and whomever it was you may think that you have gotten away scott free but you are sadly mistaken. David we miss you SO much. The fam and I have 100% faith that the person or people who did this to you will be found sooner than later. You continue to be a blessing to us in so many ways and I wish we all could have grown older and wiser with you. You had all the potential in the world and I just stay so depressed at the thought of how you passed away. I'm just so grateful that I got to spend the time that we did have together with nothing but good times. Trust and believe that we won't let this ride. We will always, always, always love you.
And to the devil who took our David from us, you reap what you sow. I hope you're reading this because YOU WILL GET CAUGHT and WHEN you do, you will SUFFER. Keep thinking that you got away because the good Lord knows what you did and at the end of the day, you have to answer to him. Think about the man and woman that gave life to David and how much they are suffering knowing that they have to say goodbye to their son. You took a YOUNG man's life from him and all over what?! Just think about your reasoning behind doing what you did. I sure do hope that God will reveal to me your reason but either way, it still wouldn't add up. And now, it's too late. I hope you can't close your eyes to go to sleep at night and what you did to David consumes every single one of your thoughts because you have completely traumatized us.
To all of those worried about code of the street- just picture this being your brother shot in the chest more than seven times and left there on the pavement. If someone knew any information on who murdered YOUR BROTHER, wouldn't you want them to come forward for justice on behalf of him? We all have a voice. Speak up and speak out against this senseless violence in our communities.

one of the most pleasent and respectful and kind human beings i've ever met i hope and pray for him and his family who ever did this will see karma god bless you david i know god will take care of you your soul is not forgotten as you are in heaven and at peace you will be missed

Wow, I found out yesterday from a friend of mine that David died. I've known David almost 12 years, we went to middle school together and he went to high school for a year. Wow dude, I'm going to miss your jokes and your laugh. You were deep down a good guy. I know you're in a better place now.

I personally haven't heard any further developments on this above named suspect - Vincent Weaks. But I guess this is a small start to some sort of justice for David. Someone was obviously worried about coming forward but knows SOMETHING and felt obligated to speak up. These murders seem to be looked at like, "an every day thing that will never change" - and so I wonder if our communities, including police departments, have stopped working as hard to eliminate or solve these crimes. If you know something, there are numerous ways to speak out without having to walk in fear. I know it's easier said than done but don't be scared to do what you know is truly right. You can save somebody else's life from an uncaught murderer by saying what you know. Your heart and soul must be in so much bondage - Let it go and know that the Lord will never deal you more than you can handle.

David I am overflowing in grief I am the very reason of your existing . You are my first born I love you very much and how me and mom misses you more than anyone could ever imagine, I pray daily that the one responsible for this tragic miscarriage of justice will appear to answer for the fatal crime he has committed!
