West Roxbury could net a new restaurant - and ice cream
On Boston Food and Whine, Tammy reports that even as Vintage exits, a seafood place could be opening up where Fern's used to be.
Meanwhile, ParkwayBoston.com reports the Continental dog grooming place next door to Tai Ho has re-opened - and that the owner is also looking to put a new ice cream place in some of the gleaming new space where the restaurant used to be. This would be Centre Street's first ice-cream place since Yoo Hoo's and Friendly's closed in 2005.
Tammy also says Jeff Fournier, the suddenly ex-chef at Vintage, is close to opening a new upscale eatery on Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park (right across from Albert Winestein). On the one hand, cool, on the other hand, it makes you realize how long it's taking C.F. Donovan's to open on Hyde Park Avenue.

I too passed a
I also saw a handmade-looking sign that said Daily Catch (or some seafood-ish name) on Centre Street in W. Roxbury this morning.
NOT Daily Catch...
I had a typo in my post. I did a drive by this morning and the place is called: Fresh Catch To Go
It is located in Fern's original spot (not the place they moved to that was affected by the fire).
good place for takeout eatery?
It's not a good place for a takeout eatery, nary a parking spot in sight, just off the rotary that's saturated everyday during rush hour.
I hope they make it go. It's be good to have a place to get fresh fish for dinner.
Parking
Yeah, I agree about the parking issue. That's all of Centre Street and the other places seem to do okay (like Thai Spice and Real Deal). You can usually find parking on Belgrade Ave. (runs alongside West on Centre) and then just hoof it (it's less than a block).
Yes parking can be an issue
Yes parking can be an issue on Centre st. but it doesn't seem to stop people from picking up their food from the Real Deal or Thai Spice..if you love the food you will find a way to get it...Drive around for a few minutes..or maybe walk a block..I do it all the time..
West Roxbury RSS
Was this post added after you fixed the "West Roxbury" feed? Because if it was, the feed is still broken.
RSS
Hmmm... Yes, I fixed my post this morning. The original post is still there, but I added an "UPDATED #2" section at the very top of the post. Not sure why the RSS hasn't updated. Sorry... You can go directly to my site to read the edit (www.bostonfoodandwhine.blogspot.com) Thanks for the heads up.
Guh
Would you be able to see the URL of the feed you're using? Drupal can output more than one RSS feed on the same topic and maybe I fixed the wrong one.
Yes I can see the URL and more info
When I suscribe to
http://www.universalhub.com/taxonomy/term/49/all which is the hyperlink for West Roxbury on the "All Topics" page
using my bloglines newsreader, bloglines offers this RSS feed
http://www.universalhub.com/taxonomy/term/49/all/feed
to which I am subscribed. It hasn't produced results since I first mentioned it a few days ago plus bloglines thinks there's something wrong with it.
Thanks for looking into it.
Maybe it's fixed now
Yep, I fixed one set of RSS feeds, but not the "all" feeds. I think I fixed that, and I just downloaded the feed you linked and the restaurant thing's at the top.
Basically, my wife is right: I shouldn't be allowed within 25 feet of a computer. I managed to eliminate all those feeds in the course of fiddling with the display of category index pages. When Bloglines tried to get that feed, which no longer existed, Drupal forwarded it to the HTML version of the West Roxbury page, which naturally isn't good RSS. My apologies for that!
i think it may still be broken,
unless it has no way to pick up stories published with the tag "Wast Roxbury" since this one:
Marian Walsh thinks suburban schools more ... 3/14/2008
In other words, these stories are not in the feed and should be:
West Roxbury could net a new rest & ice cream, 03/19/2008
West Roxbury restaurant pulls up steaks, 03/18/2008
Lock up, 03/17/2008
I'm not letting your wife let you off the hook. Check your work. ;)
Sign of things to come
This'll be Centre Street's first fish take-out place since, oh, the mid-90's, when DeNo's expanded and took over what had been a fish place next door.
