She sees weird people

Fabulously Out There is walking to work at the Pru this morning when she starts seeing weird people:

... Next, two men come toward dressed in bedsheets covered in fake blood.

At which point I an wondering....are they crusaders? It is Good Friday and we all know what the Catholics did back in the day. These two might be a bit much into it.

Then, suddenly, Wonder-freaking-Woman, just with different colors appears.

At this point I am doubting my sanity.

There were a few pirate as well....and....as I enter my office building, I see a dude walking around in what resembles a popcorn box (home made, think Halloween) that said "DUH" on it. ...

Hmm, sounds like a job for Anime Boston, which opens today at, tah dah, the Hynes.

Thanks Adam! I honestly was clueless. I was all "HUH".....did I miss something? I should wear a box that says "HUH AND DUH" from now on. :)

Silly me

My first thought was that they must have been costumed for Purim!

Yeah, Purim

Purim was my first thought, then Anime convention. Purim is weirder.

Purim, and Anime Boston

By Ron Newman | Fri, 03/21/2008 - 12:06pm

Purim, however, is generally celebrated the night before rather than the day of. Lots of costumed folks were at my shul last night.

I was riding a Green Line E train from Lechmere into Boston this morning, when a huge crowd of suitcase-laden young people jammed onto the train at North Station. They had just come from Maine on the Downeaster and were headed for the Midtown Hotel on Huntington Ave, where they planned to drop off their bags before heading to Anime Boston.

Don't get the cartoon characters mad

Way worse than the RMV ever was, why, even worse than the Red Sox virtual waiting room (because at least with that, you can sit down):

The registration line is > 6 hours long because thousands of people only have 6 computers on which to register. We met people who had been waiting in line since the con started - who at 3pm were still in line to register. Unbelievable. Staff at the front of the line weren't fazed as the line was moving "faster than last year." Considering that it's cash only to get in, they should ditch the computers, hand out pens & paper & have their staff enter the info later.

That's just how it goes

Anime conventions are always like this, even when they aren't cash-only, and even when they're run by fairly large/professional corporations. Lines for anything are always hours and hours long, even when you're just trying to get in to the press registration room.

I'll be there tomorrow at 7am to (hopefully) beat the lines. Worked well last year. (And no, I will not be dressed funny.)

Boskone and Arisia both had efficient registration processes

so why is an Anime convention so different? Did Anime Boston sell memberships in advance online, or does everyone have to line up to pay at the con?
