Dave Alpert requests the city of Cambridge get its act together and figure out how many lanes go in which direction on Mass. Ave. near the Charles before somebody fails "this MENSA field sobriety test."
Mem Drive is an DCR roadway and I think they have the bridge, too. That might contribute to the problem - that or the recent construction at MIT.
I say this because a quick look Rt. 16 East through Wellington Circle in Google Street View will show the road expanding 4 lanes to 5 lanes as it crosses Rt. 28, then back to four lanes and then dropping to three lanes at the bridge. All this in 1/4 mile and through two lights. Either a DCR or DCR and state not agreeing about the number of lanes!
Mass Ave is a DCR Road in that area too (note that bridge I mentioned - like, the one where Mass Ave goes over the river and keeps its name even? That isn't Mem Drive, in case Kaz is still confused).
I'm not sure where Cambridge "owns" Mass Ave after that as DCR may own the piece that vaults Mem Drive and today's buildings are not yesterday's historical boundaries.
Who's the traffic engineering genius who made the third lane on Beacon Street merge into the parking area as one approaches Kenmore Square? As you pass UBurger approacing the traffic signal, the lane furthest to the right just disappears.
For a city that's supposedly so smart, there's a lot of people here who lack common sense.

I didn't say Mass Ave and Mem Drive are the same.
