Buckner's Back?

Oh, I get it - he turns his back to the field and throws it between his legs?

the scene of the crime

What genius thought opening day, ring ceremony day, take the day off from work and get loaded day, was a good day to schedule Bucker's return to the scene of the crime? The crime is the one in which he is blamed for the team's failure. Of course, he WAS in a position to be the hero and win it.

86ing a team effort

That loss wasn't Buckner's alone. He had help - wayyy too much help. Maybe he could have been the hero, but it isn't fair to blame him for not saving the day when it was not his fault that the day needed to be saved.

Underrated villain

Gedman should have gotten in front of the damn "wild pitch". He blocks it...whole different ending.

And my dad pointed out not too long ago - that while Congress had Clemens under oath, they should have asked whether it was his idea or Johnny Mac's to take him out of the ballgame.

The crime is the one in

The crime is the one in which he is blamed for the team's failure.

And besides...

Buckner had his moment of ignominy in Game 6, forcing Game 7 which we could have won.

He had one of the worst errors in baseball history with that between-the-legs grounder, but it didn't spell automatic doom for the Sox. The fact that it happened as Boston had its first chance to win the Series (Boston won Games 1 and 2; New York won 3 and 4, then Boston won Game 5 to set themselves up for the winning game) was really what spelled out Buckner's legacy. It wasn't like we'd won the first 3 and then let the Mets crush our spirits four times in a row... that'd have been a series win coming off a 0-3 deficit and gosh, where have we heard that one before?

He WAS in a position to be

He WAS in a position to be the hero and win it.

No, He Wasn't

The game was tied when Buckner made his error.

The ignorance of some so-called Sox fans concerning this moment is abysmal.

Who said I was a fan? And

Who said I was a fan? And why insult the fans, they're with you not against you.

I suppose you want everyone to think your knowledge and fanaticism is superior. Fine, I could care less.

Yup, You Got Me!

I'm an anonymous troll, and I come from New York. I'm as strupid as the day is long.

Admitting the problem is the first step on the road to recovery

So I salute you, Mr. Anonymous.

Me, Too

It took guts to admit that you're from New York and as strupid as the day is long. I, too, salute you.

I grew up in NY - don't lump

I grew up in NY - don't lump me in with someone like that

not from NY

I'm not from New York. Consider yourself unlumped.

But I agree with him on another point, the Yankees do suck.

yankees suck! (couldnt help it)

way to go sul.this person obviously doesn’t know what they are writing about. how does someone anonymous challenge a guy named suldog from boston? will they ever learn? that guys father was pretty clever about asking clemens about the series. funny
my take on buckner.i was a clubhouse kid in the summer of 87.when they released buckner, i carried his bags out to his truck.he gave me a 50 dollar bill.he was a broken man at that point, but a very classy guy.i was also in the stands in 90 when he came back and i stood with the others and gave him a long standing ovation.stanley, gedman, shiraldi and johnny mac deserve much more blame.but hey, we have two championships now. i dont cringe when i see the ball rolling though billy bucks legs.now i just look up to my father and grandfather, smile and tell them how great it feels to be over all that curse bullshit. keep slugging suldog. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!

My Pleasure

And he has admitted that he's from New York and that he's strupid, so I say we cut the guy a break.

"strupid" speaks for itself.

"strupid" speaks for itself.

And it was suldog who posted the confession as anonymous above. What a transparently thin intellect.

Do you plan to join Anonymous Anonymous soon?

a 10-step program for people who want to break the habit of posting anonymous comments on blogs (especially strupid ones)?

I already have

That's the think about Anonymous, it's anonymous. Thanks for asking.

Maybe this weekend

I'll finally break down and check the requisite boxes in the admin console to require registration and then sit back and watch as nobody ever says anything again. ...

Too many anonymi hurt my brane.

Why should we even have to

Why should we even have to do a stupid captcha if this sort of trolling is going to be allowed to go unchecked? Frankly, boner pill spam is more insightful

i was also in the stands in

i was also in the stands in 90 when he came back and i stood with the others and gave him a long standing ovation.

How could you mention that game and not mention the inside-the-park homer that he hit?

Thank You

Coming from the Bronx as I do, it isn't easy for me to admit being strupid. I am trying, though. Thank you for your support.

thanks mr moderator

I'll accept the credit since you insist but it's only fair to advise you that another anonymous posted that confession.
