one of the things that kills
one of the things that kills me is how overused shipping up to boston is. they even started using it for the pats on tv and at bc football games (admittedly at first i loved this, especially since originally it was only used when the players came on the field).
i dont think we can get rid of it all together though since it is papelbon's entrance song. in fact, if he were to change his song i bet they'd use this even more, whereas if he keeps this as his song they could really only use it when he played...

just curious, why are people so against this?
Aside from it being a lame song ...
1) it has nothing to do at all with baseball or Boston or Fenway ...
2) it was written by a more than grown man infatuated with a famous ten year old - ICK!
People want something new
Some folks are just getting weary of the song, and would like the Sox to try something new or different.
For me
...it's clear that the kind of people who get really fired up to hear "Sweet Caroline" (and leave when it's over) are the kind of people who will stop coming to games when the Sox hit their next down-cycle. These pathetic front-runners cannot be trusted under any circumstances.
It's the same thing that makes me cringe when I see the love at C's games for Gino. Hey, man, I knew Gino when Gino only showed up for six home wins a year. Where the hell have all these other people been?

Not just them
I'm someone who loves to sing along to "Sweet Caroline," and I've been a Red Sox fan my entire life, so it's not just people who have jumped on the bandwagon.

That goes for me too. I love it. It's fun and uplifting going into the bottom of the 8th (just 6 outs to go!). I'm going to be here whether they kill it or not and whether the Sox win or not.
The day that Magic 106.7
The day that Magic 106.7 started playing a "Fenway" version of the song, complete with recorded crowd chanting, was the day that the Sweet Caroline phenomenon was officially dead.
It's fun to have fun little traditions, and I always thought the sing-along was sweet (simply because it really came from the fans) but once it gains this kind of exposure, it gets really tiring really quickly.

Frankly, Neil Diamond still has to answer for that atrocious Jazz Singer remake, so any complaints about him not even bothering to play Sweet Caroline live for the one city which seems to give a damn and remember that he still exists, well, those complaints will just have to wait.
