Universal Hub gets noticed

In the spring issue of CommonWealth magazine, Dan Kennedy profiles Universal Hub and its editor Adam Gaffin, "the most influential editor you’ve never heard of."

What emerges from all this is something approaching a community-wide conversation. It's like talk radio, only better, richer, more diverse, with people able to talk not just with the host but with each other through the comments they post.

One of the things I liked about the article (which I believe now gets me up to 14:59 on my 15-minute clock) was how Dan also discussed the challenges faced by print media and blogger types in this new world (Obligatory disclaimer: Dan's part of the Boston Blogs Network, which I run).

I beg to differ Adam - it

I beg to differ Adam - it looks like your 15 minutes may be just beginning....

I think he may be working up

I think he may be working up to the ever elusive 30 minutes of fame.

Kudos all around

Excellent article by Dan, and a well-deserved profile of Adam's hard work. When friends move to the Boston area, this is the site I tell them to check first.

Ditto

My question is

By Gareth | Fri, 04/18/2008 - 11:02am

Did Commonwealth just give UHub more readers, or vice versa?

incestuous blogosphere

By Anonymous | Fri, 04/18/2008 - 11:30am

And they say the blogosphere is incestuous. What do they know?

I noticed Kennedy didn't remark on the quality of the commentary here at UniversalHub. I guess that's our dirty little secret.

But seriously, congratulations on the good publicity.

Terrific exposure in a high quality magazine, Adam. Thanks for giving all of us a virtual dining room table to sit around.

Well deserved

Nice to see Adam and UH get the recognition for the contribution to the community (and the hard work involved)!

Congrats

"Better than talk radio"? That's faint praise indeed. :)

"Better than talk radio"? That's faint praise indeed.

True enough. I guess I was thinking of good talk radio when I wrote that. Not much of that anymore.

"From these pieces a picture

By Andrew (not verified) | Fri, 04/18/2008 - 6:32pm

"From these pieces a picture of the city begins to emerge. And it’s a very different picture from the suburban-mom/urban-slickster duopoly you often find in the Globe, or the seamy underbelly portrayed by the Herald."

Very true -- this is what I like most about Universal Hub. Congrats, Adam.

A belated...

Keep up the good work. You are on the pulse of Boston activity.

"Gaffin tries to stay

By Fenix | Sat, 04/19/2008 - 11:19am

"Gaffin tries to stay current with some 600 to 700 blogs in Greater Boston"

And you do that in your spare time... You are something else, dear Adam. It's just so wicked good that you happen to be a Bostonian something else. :)

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

You do such great work on Universal Hub. I just wish you could ditch the day job.
