I need to go out and bowl a string of candlepins in his honor.

Saturday mornings during my youth would not have been the same without Don Gillis. Many hours spent watching Candlepin Bowling with my Dad. A great sports voice in New England, and a fine gentleman.

Well, I didn't watch with my dad, but still. It's a sad day, indeed.

I can remember as kid my father picking me up every saturday morning and we would head to Lucky Strike Lanes in Lynn, Ma. to go bowling.. Then we would race home to watch Candlepin Bowling on channel 5 at 12 noon.. My father build me miniature bowling alley in the basement so I could watch the show and bowl at the same time.. My brother would get mad at me cause I use to make him set up the pins for me.. Don Gillis was a great sportcaster and I truly enjoyed his bowling show.. I can say I was lucky enough to bowl at the Fairway Sports Center in Natick on Lanes 3 and 4 with my good friend Ray Dow (also from Lynn)... This is truly a sad day for everyone in the bowling world....
