Dick Summer was a very important guy in Boston radio in the 1960s. As I recall, he was the first guy to get away from Top 40 radio and play what would later be called underground radio. I was listening one day and he told us to change over to another station for an interview with John Lennon, and then come back. They don't do things like that these days. His shtick was too precious - the sappy love poetry - but the music he played was ear-opening.

His voice can be heard at present on Lowell, MA AM radio station WCAP-980, introducing newscasts, promoting shows, etc...in other words, he is to WCAP what Jim Cutler is to WEEI. WCAP beams 5,000 watts into Boston's northern suburbs.
