All she needs is a fedora with a press pass in the brim
Putting the kidlet to bed about 20 minutes ago, we noticed down the hill - where Poplar Street in Roslindale become West Street in Hyde Park - some flashing blue and red lights. Looked to be a couple of fire trucks and a couple of cruisers. And she insisted I post something here in case anybody knows what was going on there - given that I was disinclined to put shoes on and drive down there (yeah, I'm a slug).

While you were posting this ...
Greta went out the window, notebook in hand.
Not very green of you, Adam!
Seeing how we're killing the planet with driving, maybe you could have written, "Put on my shoes and walk down there".
Every little bit helps!
Ah, but speaking as a reporter ...
Speed is sometimes of the essence in getting the story/photo, and I know I could get down there a lot faster in the car, especially since there is no direct path from here to there (credit to whoever built the roads on this hill since they generally follow the contours of the land rather than just going straight up and down).
Sheesh!
There's a whole internet out there.
Don't you have anything better to kvetch
about?
scanner is what you need
My husband and I are both journalist and our solution to your problem is to have a scanner with all the local police, fire and EMT frequencies programmed in. Then you just turn it on and hear what's happening.
Somewhere on the Web
Somebody has a feed of the Boston FD (and a forum to go with it - which is how I first heard about the Tai Ho fire).
Unfortunately, I'm a recovering scannerhead (working for 12 years at a suburban daily'll do that to you), and I know if I actually got one, I'd be racing out all the time, and I suspect that wouldn't be all that good on the homefront :-).
