Why a duck?

Probably just my imagination, but this chihuahua didn't seem exactly thrilled to be dressed up as a duck at the annual "Make Way for Ducklings" parade through Beacon Hill today. This kid more than made up for the pooch's demeanor, though:

"Make Way for Ducklings" meets Thing 1 from "Cat in the Hat."
After the parade, in the Public Garden, people were lining up to have their kid's picture taken with Mayor Menino. Not everybody was happy to see him, though:

Awwwwwwwwwww cute kids.
Chihuahuas have a chip on their shoulder, understandably so.
The kid the mayor's holding (for political purposes) thought her parents were giving her to the happy guy with marble mouth. Let's take a stand and end fear in politics.

Every other kid I saw handed to the mayor seemed, at worst, OK, with being held by him. And in that particular case, the parents handed the kid over even as they warned him the kid might start to cry. Which she (he?) promptly did.
