Ever wanted to write for the Globe?

The Globe is looking to replace some of the experienced reporters who took buyouts - they're looking for health care, commercial real estate, Washington and local-science reporters, as well as somebody to help write the Names page. "A demonstrable ability to write coherently and with style, as well as gather facts accurately," is a must. Also, you need to know how to type.

Have you nominated yourself, Adam?

By Ron Newman | Mon, 05/12/2008 - 3:39pm

Adam isn't qualified

By bobmetcalf | Mon, 05/12/2008 - 3:51pm

1) He's an adult.
2) He knows where places like Monument Square and
Maverick Square are without google maps.
3) He knows how to run a successful, compelling
website dedicated to local news.
Clearly, these factors would make him a rule-out at
the Globe.

Gawd, how's that buyout working for them?

Honestly?

By adamg | Mon, 05/12/2008 - 4:05pm

There was a time when I (like almost every other reporter at a suburban paper) would have loved to work at the Globe.

Now? No. I have a good job at a good company and on breaks and after work I get to sit around and complain about everything.

turnover makes it harder for PR pros

Trying to get a story placed in the Globe is very hard these days. The paper is losing a lot of talented scribes. Then again, it'll be nice to read some fresh bylines.

Careful what you wish for

By bobmetcalf | Mon, 05/12/2008 - 4:23pm

Is Sarah Schweitzer's "lifestyle reporting" a fresh
byline? I'll take the unfresh Jackie MacMullan please.

It looks to me like what I've seen in my own industry,
IT. When a shop is clearly heading for the crapper,
the talented top 20% leave ASAP--because they can.
And the Adrian Walker's (who can't move) are the ones
left, which just accelerates the decline.

Don't forget to add....

...must be able to spell and write complete sentences!

And thus another formerly great newspaper dies.

Who with any amount of intelligence is going to want to work for them after the crappy way they treated their long time writers?

Oh well. RIP, Globe.

What about the backroom employees...

By bobmetcalf | Mon, 05/12/2008 - 7:00pm

As part of this descent into oblivion, about
a year ago the Globe had 50-plus ops employees
train a bunch of Indians, then offshored
those jobs to India and the newly trained
"employees":

A leading indicator that somehow escaped the outrage detectors
who write the daily editorials over there on Morrissey.
They must have been in Vermont at the time.

It's dead, Jim....

Put those resumes down

By adamg | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 9:30am

Dan Kennedy reports all the postings are for internal Globe consumption only.

Pick the resumes back up

By Ron Newman | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 10:12am

A couple hours later, Dan changes his mind.

Or ...

By adamg | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 10:16am

The Globe is hiring from within for the more senior positions (commercial real estate and, of course, Names) and hiring kids from suburban papers for the more lowly beats.

Aw, you are all being too cynical

By John K (not verified) | Tue, 05/13/2008 - 2:39pm

C'mon. A lot of people still love newspapers, and a lot of people still love the Globe! Many journalism students, and even young reporters, would love the chance to write for one of the best dailies in the country.

I notice they just added an opening for two sports reporters, too!
