It's All About Service

This is not surprising. There have been many restaurants with excellent food that are no longer in play because of a snotty or ill-informed waiter or waitress.

Memo to restaurants: Train your wait staff on courtesy and emotional intelligence.

go to the top...

If I run into a bad experience I let the chef know about it the next day. I'm not going to punish the chef just because the host is in a snit. I can guarantee you that any chef that is busting his ass 24/7 is not going to take this kind of behavior up front very lightly.

I don't expect much

When I go to a restaurant, I really don't ask for much. Let me order, bring the stuff, and swing by every once in awhile. If the food is going to take ahile, just let me know. I'm very flexible and will roll with whatever happens. But, I just hate being ignored - really, really hate it. You'll get ~20% tip from me if you do your job, but ignore me and it drops drastically. I know you're busy and will work with you, I'm not going to let little stuff ruin a meal. Thanks.

Sort Of Snotty, But It Works (or so I'm told)

I have never tried this, but my uncle (very persnickety about service) swears it works.

He puts $20 (or whatever would be a very good tip for the establishment) on the table when the waiter or waitress first comes around. He informs the server that this is their tip. However, for each bit of service he finds less than satisfactory, he will deduct one dollar.

If he gets exemplary service, the server gets an exemplary tip.

I have never tried this, nor would I. It's just not my style. But, he swears he gets great service each and every time.

Of course, they may be spitting into his food in the kitchen. Who knows?

If it is...

... they stole it from my uncle. He told me about it 30 years ago.

Karen sounds totally

Karen sounds totally snobby!
I wouldn't care about giving her good service, because I'd suspect she'd complain & blog about her experience, not matter what I did.
