Police: Kid escapes would-be kidnapper in Dorchester

UPDATE: The kid lied; there was no evil man, Boston Police now say.

Boston Police report they are looking for a man who tried to abduct a 12-year-old boy walking on Gallivan Boulevard (near the CVS) on his way to St. Brendan's School this morning:

... The victim stated the suspect approached him from the rear vacant lot next to 663 Gallivan Blvd and stated, "Hey" and then grabbed the victim's right arm and attempted to pull the victim into the vacant lot. The victim was able to break free from the suspect. He then fled through numerous yards and streets in an attempt to lose the suspect. The victim made his way to St. Brendan's School and immediately notified the principal of the incident.

The suspect reportedly chased him through the vacant lot onto Marsh St. into the rear of Florian Hall where the suspect fled in an unknown direction. ...

The alleged perp is described as: A white male, mid 40's- 50's, 200 lbs, 5'10", with scruffy salt/pepper facial hair, wearing a black waist length leather jacket with red sleeves, blue jeans with faded/white spots near the thighs of both legs, a black baseball cap with black sunglasses, and gray New Balance sneakers.

That's one very accurate suspect description! Not that it's a bad thing...

They train them to get details when these things happen.

I'm a little confused about this

- That time of day on Gallivan Blvd and no one driving by saw anything or came to this kid's aid? Seems kind of strange, good thing he got all these details about the suspect, I would think remembering someone walking the area in a leather jacket with red sleeves would be quite easy.

Also what time were the police called (on the BPDnews.com website it said "police responded @ 8:55am" but the incident took place at 8:15) I would hope that this type of a call would be top priority for BPD (so if it was top priority, the boy was on the run from this stranger for 40mins?)

Obviously we need to take this threat serious and keep an eye out for all kids, but don't we need to know what really happened, and if it was faked (maybe just an excuse for being late, that spiraled out of control?) then we need to know NOW before we drop $10k on police overtime.

Not sure why that's such a big deal and how it raises questions about the basic story - you might want to look at the BPDNews posting again:

The police responded to the school at around 9 a.m. when called by the principal. Then they talked to the kid about a series of events that started around 8:15 a.m. First, the kid evades his attacker and runs to school. Then, he finds the principal, who probably has to spend some time just calming the poor kid down. Then the principal calls the police, who take a couple minutes to get to the school.
