Tackled from behind on Grant Street around 9 a.m. by a Hispanic guy in his 20s with a prominent scar on his forehead.

Here is the text of the Harvard Police Department's advisory on the latest incident:

COMMUNITY ADVISORY

Assault and Battery

Grant and Banks Streets, Cambridge

On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, a male undergraduate student reported that he was the victim of an assault and battery at approximately 8:55 AM. The victim reported that while walking on Grant Street near Banks Street he was tackled from behind and physically assaulted by an unknown individual. The victim fought back and was able to flee the area. At no time during the assault did the suspect speak to the victim.

The victim described the offender as a Hispanic male in his 20s, 5'8" in height, with a medium build, a large scar on his forehead, light goatee, and wearing a blue puffy jacket with a fur lined hood, light blue jeans, and black sneakers.

Because this incident did not occur on Harvard University property, it is being investigated by the Cambridge Police Department. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Cambridge Police Department, Criminal Investigation Division at 617-349-3370.

If at any time you observe any type of suspicious activity or have been the victim of a violent crime, regardless of the location of the incident, please notify the Harvard University Police Department immediately at 617-495-1212.

That advisory was e-mailed to people in my office too. It's the first time I can recall that we've received a crime-related advisory that way.

I used to get these kinds of bulletins when I worked at HSPH in the medical area in one of the "satellite" locations on Mission Hill.
