Do they still have the sandwiches named after Jewish gangsters?

with bated breath (whatever that is) for The Real Deal to open. I live in JP but have gone out of my way to W. Rox for the food at the original Real Deal. Today I went in (they opened on Thursday) and had a delicious chicken cutlet sub. I want to try everything on the menu now that they're right around the corner.

"Bated" is short for "abated" - it basically means you've been holding your breath.

Either that, or you've eaten one too many tuna sandwiches waiting for the deli to open so you will have more options for lunch ...

Old timers remember when the original Brighams was on the other side of Centre street. There were wooden booths with generations worth of chewing gum stuck on the under side of the tables. This was the NEW Brighams.

But will it still feature wi-fi sucking slackers on lap-tops giving you the stink eye for daring to bring a kid in? Bathroom key on a bucket lid?

nope, that's JP Licks

Like the dude who is ALWAYS in JP licks, usually at the table closest to the door, spread out with his laptop and yakking on his cell. I swear, he considers it his personal office.

I didn't see Wi-Fi advertised.

Before Sweet Finnish closed I remember hearing that they were not going to install WiFi, so they wouldn't be competing with them for WiFi starved laptop users.

Walked by here on my way to grab some maki at JP Seafood for lunch today and it was *packed.* Lots of couples with dogs, couples with strollers, etc. I'm sure some of that is the newness factor. Then again the Real Deal over in the Dub Rox gets plenty crowded around lunch and dinner times.

Now let's see what happens when City Feed opens up a block up the street! Deli War!!!

The key to the Real Deal is to call your order in ahead of time and pick it up. Otherwise you'll be waiting quite a while for anything more than a pizza slice. The food is unbelievably good!

The real deal...

... is not the Real Deal deli but is the one and only Same Old Place! The people in there are the best of JP, the guys behind the counter kick ass, and the TV was last tuned to the Turbo Jam infomercial. Plus they make the best pita bread right there in front of you. Awesome!
