Train drives right through MIT building

In addition to great bike-paths, the MIT campus provides generous right-of way for freight trains. I'm always curious as to why there are no crossing bars at those intersections through Cambridge. The roads (Mass Ave, Main St, Broadway, Cambridge St) are heavily used and the train passes by about once a week and usually during the afternoon/evening, not just at night.
