If a guy with a New York accent offers to sell you Celtics tickets, he might not be honest

Boston Police report arresting a Bronx guy, a couple of Fall River residents and one local on charges they were selling counterfeit Celtics tickets in the area around the Garden last night. Police advise fans to only buy their tickets from authorized scalpers ticket agencies.

Last nite in Kenmore Square
From the BPD police report:
"Officers are working hard to curb such activity and
encourage buyers to only purchase from official vendors."
Hah!
Was going to the game....running the usual gauntlet
of scally-capped scalpers. Literally less than ten feet away
from them, two uniformed members of the BPD, ignoring
the cries of "Got tickets, need tickets? Got tickets,
need tickets?"
They were working hard alright. It's
not easy to talk on your cell and not miss any of the
pretty women walking by with all that racket from the
scalpers going on just a few feet away!
:eyeroll:
and if they *did* arrest them, you would hear from 10 other people screaming, Why are the police arresting scalpers? There are unsolved murders!!!
Those uniformed police are there for crowd control. A visual queue to any "ruffians" that there is a police presence. Their job is essentially to stand around so their presence is noticed by the general crowd. If there is a disturbance, they are close by and can be there quickly to assist but they are pretty much on standby as thousands of civilians surge into the area.
The vice unit would be tasked with dealing with the scalpers. Its unfortunate, but if the uniformed police officers arrested those scalpers the general public is at risk because those uniformed police are now away from the crowds and doing paperwork with the scalpers.
The uniformed police *should* take note of the scalpers and report them to the vice police unit... but I am guessing those guys were at the Garden last night.
I'm sure the comment was just a standard silly knee-jerk "cops are pigs, man!" statement but put a tiny bit of thought into it.
Here's a tiny bit of silly knee jerk thought for Anon
I was pointing out the inconsistency (there are
online dictionaries for words like that if you need
one) between the stated policy on the web site and
the actual policy on the street.
And thank you for the police procedural, Sargeant Friday.
(Hint: sarcasm. Try the same site you used for
the other word.)
Bob-o
Anon was right; your knee jerked, your foot ended up in your mouth. Now you're spitting out leather and insisting you meant to do that. Do it again!
I bet if you try you can find a cop on traffic detail somewhere who is also not working hard to arrest scalpers right now.
Yep
The Boston Police Department are so down on
Scalpers! Must be true, it says it right there on
the internet at their website!
Puh-lease. I didn't mention detail cops, or cops as
"pigs". You did, and he did. Don't tell me what I
didn't say.
If the BPD wants to issue a stern warning about the
Scalper Scourge, fine by me. I'm not asking for them
to go all Star Simpson--just hang up the cell phone,
take notice, and move the scalpers
along to to a place that's less then ten feet
away from where the cops' management
has told us that they're on DEF-CON3 for < GASP >
scalpers!
on a non-controversial side note
is it me or does anyone notice aftermarket sox tickets are selling for much less than in past years?
I've been to a handful of games this year and have yet to pay more than face value for tix.
I've gotten seats on ebay, craigslist and at the ballpark.
I really can't imagine
I really can't imagine it's that hard for you to grasp the concept that different cops do different things. Is it really that hard?
I think I got the different things concept now, thanks
Some cops write self-serving PR drivel about
cracking down on scalpers. And the rest of the
cops ignore self-serving PR drivel about cracking
down on scalpers.
Kind of like I was suggesting in my original post?
Almost
Some cops work traffic detail, some cops investigate open cases, some cops walk a beat, some cops do crowd control, some cops bust ticket scalpers.
Hey, here's a hint for figuring out which cops are investigating ticket scalpers: they aren't wearing uniforms. They call that mode of operation undercover. Cool, huh?
So does crow taste good with foot?
Ya got me there, Dick Tracy!
Am hoping that the touristas from Minnesota
remembered to bring their Dick Tracy decoder
rings too, so they can tell the difference as well.
Because when they see that nice looking kid
with the scally cap, 10 feet away from a uniformed
cop offering them a real DEAL on four seats to a sold
out game, they might just assume that it's okay. I
mean, there's a cop right there, huh? So it must
be okay. Or at the very least the cop would move
the guy along. And the BPD has a firm
stance on this,it says so on the internet!
And when the gate agent tells them, no, those tickets
they paid $300 for are to a Rays game from two weeks ago,
not tonite, they're sure going to need that ring to
make sense of it all. Or maybe you can lend them your's.
