Who killed all the grass at Copley Square?

Wow, it looks even worse than our lawn:

Last week, there was some sort of event on Copley Square. A huge white tent was erected. I never found out what it was for. I wish I knew.

I hope they had a wonderful, WONDERFUL, time.

I'm pretty sure you can pitch your tent for a couple of days without killing the grass.

I think that what killed the lawn was not the tent, but the floor that was laid directly on top of the grass. I passed by on Tuesday, 6/3, when they were putting up the tent, and workmen were laying out 6-foot squares of flooring over the lawn. I wondered as I walked by what that would do to the lawn - now I know!

The oppressive 90+ heat is ideal temps for grass.

The tent was there on a rainy cold friday.
It was hot saturday, I was not in Copley.
I was in Copley at 9am on sunday and the tent was gone, the grass was dead.

I was in the common today and there were not rectangular sections of dead grass scattered about, so I don't think we can blame the heat here.

They didn't just put a tent up; there was a platform of some sort laid on top of the grass. I think the tent was there for three days or so?

It was a fundraiser for the BPL. As someone who is involved in the planning of events like this, and was involved in this one, I can tell you that there was almost certainly a budget and plan in place to repair the lawn after the event.

If it isn't repaired soon, then interested people should complain to the BPL and the Mayor. The Mayor was at the event, btw.

I hope you raised enough to cover the cost of replacing the grass. Or sod, or whatever.
