Maybe just avoid downtown this weekend

Boston officials are urging people to take public transportation this weekend because of Gay Pride festivities on one side of Boston Harbor and the Bunker Hill Day Parade and Road Race scheduled for Sunday on the other side.

Naturally, the MBTA is advising people to expect delays because they'll be running buses instead of the Red Line between Park Street and Kendall Square to repair the tracks on the Longfellow Bridge (you know, so the trains don't decide to go for a swim).

Should be a pleasant weekend to get around town slowly and healthfully.

Enjoy!

Along a mile-long stretch of Memorial Drive between JFK Street & Western Avenue. Between Harvard Square & Central Square. Neatest T Station: Harvard Square / Handicapped accessible

Really?

Professor, is this for real? Is there actually a cleanup between JFK and Western? Is it organized, or simply organic? We need details! We've wanted to do a public clean-up for a long time, and this would be great!!

they should run shuttle buses to Lechmere instead

I don't see how they're going to get shuttle buses between Park Street and Kendall while the Gay Pride parade is going on. They should run the buses from Lechmere to Kendall instead.

MBTA plans ahead

Good point, since it looks like upper Tremont and part of Cambridge St will be closed for some period of time on Saturday between noon and and 3. Checking MBTA.com, "Red Line service on the northbound (Cambridge bound) track will be extended to Charles Street" during that time, so they have made plans to accommodate the parade... wow, hunh?
