Thanking Boston firefighters

Krank Kether lives in that Jamaica Plain triple decker that nearly burned to the ground on Thursday and she wants to praise the firefighters who responded (two of whom were hurt):

... I lost a lot, other people in other units lost more and less than I did. But those are possessions. We all have our lives.

This isn't so much an attention plea as much as it is a first-hand account of how we have a really great fire department. ...

You must be the lightweight that keeps posting at the Herald under variations of the 'bill' name and perhaps a few others. Anyone at that fire saw the way it really was. I was there.

A message folks...gas grills are illegal on porches. The little one pound bottle ones are illegal too. Use them in the yard. Oh, and there are better ways to remove paint than propane torches. (The JP fire on Dane St.)

To everyone else that says good things, thanks. It matters.

I recently had to call in a minor emergency and 2 fire-trucks were on-scene within minutes. As a citizen and taxpayer, I like what you guys do on the job- thank you.

Its very sad that the fire-fighting has lately been over-shadowed by seemingly constant union shenanigans. Seems to me that firefighter pay is reasonable (I have not heard of shortages of applicants), and I honestly hope there is a way to negotiate a new contract with reasonable pay, cracking down on working while impaired, and prosecuting or disciplining those who abuse pensions or sick-time. Honest work for honest pay will be good for all of us. God bless.
