I realized too late it was good rainbow weather; by the time I got outside, I could see it at the end of my street, but just faintly.

It was an MBTA bus at one time, I'm pretty sure. It's easier than painting it to look like one. :)

So I'm assuming that the movie actually takes place in Metro Boston instead of MA being a stand in for someplace else.

They are using Lynn for a "futuristic" Boston. Most of the props don't look futuristic at all, though. It's a bleak future. The cars are mostly from the 1990's. But, the whole thing as far I know is about Bruce Willis having to buy a new robot after his old one starts acting up.
