What streets in the Back Bay?

By mediaseth | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:38am

Even NYC's new mid-town muni-meters stop at midnight(last time I checked). For Boston, even that would be just a little ridiculous. It would also make no sense to extend them on the stretches of Beacon and Comm. where there are few businesses.

I'm used to some avenues being 7pm, others 10pm from NYC. Some areas you have to feed the meters on Sunday. It really messes with people who don't read signs. For me, it's easy.

On the other hand, this is Boston. The streets roll up too early for this to work.

The meters probably should

The meters probably should go later, maybe til 9 or 10. 2 AM probably makes more sense just on weekend nights since people come in and stay much later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but

By o_brien | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:54am

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that these meters turn into resident spaces after 8pm. So, if the meter hours are extended till 2am, that would in essence be reducing the number of overnight parking spaces available for residents. Unless, I suppose, one doesn't mind feeding meters at midnight - might not be ideal from a safety aspect and not great for those who have to get up at 6AM for work.

In the Back Bay, the ones

By Rob (not verified) | Mon, 06/23/2008 - 10:09am

In the Back Bay, the ones closer to Beacon become residential but the others (Newbury, cross streets between Boylston & Comm Ave) are generally open to anyone parking there after 8 pm.

here's your compromise

meters until 2am? then the T runs until at least 2am as well.

Agreed with above

If you have meters active for drivers until 2 am; have public transportation also be available until 2 am, so people have a choice whether or not to drive into town and stay late.

Problem is Boston doesnt

That's the end of theater

Having to pay for parking isn't a problem so much as extending the 2-hour limit. You can't have dinner and see a show downtown if parking is limited to 2 hours, unless you pay through the nose to park in a garage.

If you do it, we won't come.

LaMattina and the Parking Lot Owners?

Are there any connections here? Sounds like yet another racket courtesy of certain people who own all the garages and lots in the area.

Hurts restaurants, theaters, shops

If I go into Boston in the evening, it's to see a show, or dinner and a show, or dinner and shopping. None of those work with 2-hour time limits, and I won't pay the extortionate garages on top of the other expenses.

Proceedings, transactions of our Boston City Council.

By the zak | Tue, 06/24/2008 - 2:17am

Proceedings and transactions of our Boston City Council are a sham. For example, here's a so called Budget Hearing before our Council's Ways and Means Committee

Only one Councilor !
