Oh, noes, not the Wendy's!

New York developer unwraps plans for a Downtown Crossing project that would involve three stories of retail and 260 rental units where the Wendy's and Payless are now.

A question: So when does Downtown Crossing get its own supermarket?

Ed. colliding worlds note: The company's name is Midwood Management Corp. Midwood represents! When I lived there, it was sort of the Roslindale of Brooklyn: Great place to live that nobody outside the area had ever heard of, unless they were either way too familiar with the life of Woody Allen or they knew me, or both (bonus Midwood props if you also realize Erich Segal is from there, hmm, or should that be demerits?).

Midwood/Roslindale

HA! I moved from Midwood in Brooklyn to Roslindale in 2001... I KNEW I picked the right place to live!

We're taking over!

Mwa-ha-ha!

it's ok, there still one on

By anon (not verified) | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 1:57pm

it's ok, there still one on summer street!

Here's a fun fact, there seems to be only 5 Wendy's in Boston! 3 in Boston proper.

DO Bostonians Hate Wendy's or something? I'd take a it over BK or McyD's anyday.

Don't even get me started

And the nearest Arby's is like 30 miles away. What kind of twilight-zone city IS this?

Arby's

By Ron Newman | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 2:08pm

Used to be in the CambridgeSide Galleria food court, but it's been gone for years. By the way, Arby's bought Wendy's a few months ago.

But do you really need Arby's when you have Kelly's Roast Beef?

I know.

By Michael | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 2:09pm

And there was one in Waltham Center. Not super convenient, but not 30 miles. Sigh.

And I could go to Arby's without inadvertently spending 16 bucks on fried clams, something I have thus far failed to accomplish at Kelly's.

I grew up driving by the old

I grew up driving by the old decrepit Arby's on Rt 1, and quickly learned to despise the entire idea of it. Then I went to college far away, and discovered that certain weirdos actually like the place. I refuse to open my mind to that proposition.

Which is more or less

...how I feel about Dunkin' Donuts. I mean, I guess if you're in the desert and dying of thirst, and the only liquid is available is a DD coffee, well...not having been in that situation, I just don't know what I'd do. Hopefully I'd go mad before the pain got too intense.

But... But...

Road trip to the Solomon Pond Mall Food Court! Who's in?!?!

(not tonight)

Arby's +

By anon (not verified) | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 11:16pm

I live in Marlborough so I visit the Arby's in Solomon Pond Mall whenever I go to a movie. I visit the Washington Street Wendy's also.

So Downtown Crossing is going to get MORE luxury apartments, when many others in the area are obviously vacant, with more being built where Filene's once stood?

When a city has the third

By MattL (not verified) | Wed, 07/09/2008 - 9:29am

When a city has the third highest housing costs in the country, I think building more is totally acceptable. You can't tell me there's a glut of housing when my girlfriend and I pay out the nose for a closet sized apartment.

But do they have to be luxury?

By Maya (not verified) | Wed, 07/09/2008 - 11:10am

More apartments are fine, but more luxury apartments? When people cannot afford the ones that exist?

I'm surprised that so many people

eat fast food!

I Can Understand Your Surprise

broke the habit

By Anonymous | Wed, 07/09/2008 - 11:10am

I used to eat Whoppers or 1/4 Pounders, always with fries.

You know what they call a quarter-pounder in France? Sorry, I digress.

Anyway, after I watched Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me, I kind of lost my appetite for it. I'm glad to have broken the habit.

I suppose you don't want to know that ...

By adamg | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 2:29pm

The Arby's in West Roxbury was replaced by a Dunkin' Donuts.

Broke my heart...

Broke my heart...

I know Midwood

By mediaseth | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 2:52pm

My father went to Midwood High and then Brooklyn College. Many years later, my cousin graduated from there and went to Brooklyn College. For some reason, my uncle went to Erasmus and never finished college.

MIDWOOD

By Julie (not verified) | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 5:00pm

I was born and raised in MIDWOOD brooklyn and now I live in Brookline....

LOVE that area!

And get rid of Wendy's please.

that movie you linked to

By Ron Newman | Tue, 07/08/2008 - 3:02pm

Could it be the reason that Harvard no longer allows Hollywood movies to film on its campus?
