Pfft...
Why doesn't some more Southwestern chains make their way over here like say... In N Out burger perhaps?
An even better round food idea
I adore In Out Burger, but their limited menu is both their biggest asset and biggest weakness.
Tonight's Dinner was my treat for my boys, Dad, and auntie. Sweeter-than-Vidalia Walla Walla onion rings were a most edible fashion accessory when worn as bangle bracelets.
Limited menu?
Maybe you just aren't In-The-Know.
Five Guys rocks
When I lived in the DC area nearly 10 years ago, there was a handful of Five Guys around, and their burgers are truly great. I just recently noticed that they've expanded up & down the East Coast. Bring it on! They make the burger experience so, so much better than any other chain - except maybe In & Out.
We'll see
Five Guys wasn't all over DC until well after I moved out of Maryland. I did visit one out in Gaithersburg (or was it "North Potomac"?) on a family visit a couple of years ago and found it OK. What I gathered from reading a recent discussion on DCist.com (when they noted impending expansion out of metro DC) is that some shops are better than others.
I think they will have a
I think they will have a much better shot than a place like Krispy Kreme because New England doesnt have a favorite son big time burger place, so it will do well among new people. They will have a hard time cracking that demographic that is willing to pay more than 2 dollars for a burger, as they all tend to visit the local joints. Most people I know like a good burger from a local place, and a good pizza from a local place much more than what they get at any national chain. It should be interesting to see how they do up here.
Five Guys is fantastic.
Five Guys is fantastic. They used to be a hole in the wall burger shack in the Northern Virginia suburbs, and now I'm glad to see them up here. They've been very aggressive in their expansion and now even occupy a space in Terminal C at Washington National Airport. Great burgers, great price, can't go wrong.
And the french fries!
It would be great if it were opening in Boston. I lived near the original Five Guys in Alexandria, VA. (I think it was the original.) The fries were so freakin' good. Every day on a white board in the restaurant they would list where the potatoes came from for the day.
The menu
Unless something has changed, Five Guys only sells burgers, fries, and hot dogs (and soft drinks). The peanuts in the shell in open containers aren't on the menu: they're free to nosh on while you wait for your order.
I really miss the one in Arlington, but with the restaurants popping up from Miami to Lancaster County and the Jersey Shore, I'm delighted to see them coming in here. We just need one closer to Arlington than Dedham.
Southern food chain
The real question is "When is Sonic coming already"
And also
Waffle House. I don't ask for much, folks.
OMG
I would kill someone if Waffle House said that's all that was needed to open up around here.
Unfortunately, to get a franchise location you have to already be employed by Waffle House, so their growth is often a lot more "organic" as managers decide to strike out on their own in nearby towns (i.e. you won't see one up here in Boston/MA until NJ, NY, CT, and maybe even RI have one first).
Chick Fil Lay?
Chick Fil Lay?
Chicks
Burlington, North Shore and Pheasant Lane Malls.
Me? I still pine for Jaffe's Pick-a-chick.
OMG Ive been seeing thoe
OMG Ive been seeing thoe commercials for what must be ten years now, and Ive yet to ever see one in person! Its like the phantom fast food place. Ive driven to and from DC and NYC like 10 times in the past 2 years and have always tried to find one en route to no avail. Their menu looks so good, and I love tater tots!
I hit up one of these in St.
I hit up one of these in St. Paul last week. it had apparently opened the week before. the lines were insane; they had to commandeer the parking lot of another business down the street as a "staging area".
it was pretty good, but not worth a staging area.
Krispy Kreme

Check out the map, it is split between we are here , and we are not here yet. Massachusetts is listed "not here yet"
Dont ya think there should be a third option, make it red and call it FAIL
my question is
when is that Popeye's in Grove Hall going to open?
or even look like it might ever open?
I was just on vacation in the midwest for a week, with plane layovers in Atlanta. I ate at Popeye's 4 times. I want to eat it daily now.
Popeye's
There's a Popeye's in Kenmore Square, in the Buckminster Hotel building. When it opened, some people complained that it was too small and that service was slow. I don't know if things have gotten better since then.
I was surprised when that opened...
I thought people knew better than to eat fried chicken & french fries. I continue to be surprised when I see customers in there, there are so many other places around there to eat!
You seem surprised that Americans like fast food
Why? Have you not looked around recently?
I work for a very green
I work for a very green company - they banned transfats years ago, and we get monthly newsletters about how bad it all is for you.
There aren't really any fast food places near my office, other than dunkin donuts.
I'm just surprised that in Boston particularly, there are new fast food placed being built and even more surprised to hear here how many people indulge.
My friends & family all deny that they go to McDonald's or anywhere similar unless they're very hungover or unless they're taking the Fung Wah.
grean vs. healthy
Maybe you're confusing "green" which is energy efficient and low waste with healthy diet... although they do cross over when it comes to meat eating. Apparently, livestock products for human consumption are not an efficient way to produce food.
not confused
the crossover continues with compostable packaging, 100% mandatory recycling, using wind as an electricity source, buying local dairy, eggs, and produce - meaning that the food is fresher & less of a carbon footprint due to trucking/shipping.
eating lower on the food chain IS green. Wasted animal products add to methane gas, which adds to global warming.

that's not to say that someone can't bring outside food into work, but that's what they offer and encourage.
You can have my fast food
when you pry it out of my grease-soaked, puffy hand.
Wait, that doesn't sound good at all.
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE I DON'T
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE I DON'T LIKE TO EAT FRIED FOOD SO I NEED TO FORCE MY HOLIER THAN THOU OPINIONS ONTO THE INTERNET. SHAME ON YOU ALL.
Get a life.
NEED TO FORCE MY HOLIER THAN THOU OPINIONS
I said I was surprised...that's a "holier than thou" opinion?
Fazoli's please
Good food fast.
There are actually three 3
There are actually three 3 Five Guys set to open this year - in Dedham, Foxborough and Swampscott -- according to the Boston Globe.
