Thank you for posting that. These horrible events don't get nearly enough attention in our local, mainstream media. Who knows what to do to stop it, but public awareness can't hurt. So sad.

minorities

By anon (not verified) | Fri, 07/11/2008 - 10:03pm

well llet me start by saying our youth is destined for trouble to begin with. especially our minorities. I have no knwoledge of mr ansderson and all respects and may god rest his soul. But on a side note Why have lying eulogies for kids who are "supposed" nice guys and never would hurt a fly. Nowadays most of the kids being murdered are gangbangers themselves, people who are evil and bad and hurt many people. now im sure fromthe poeple i ahve seen comment on mr jarvis that he is not one of these so called gangbangers but i recall a recent murder in jamaica plain that i would love to comment on. it was the murder of one luis troncoso. whom form my knowledge sold drugs and was doing drugs and was in agang... these statemetns dont kae him a abd person but he was the beholder of his destiny to a certain extent and this is why yu dont hear of this in the sububrbs because these things for the most part ( gangs drugs... etc) arent in the suburbs. not to mention alot of monority parents dont do anything about their children i see spanshi mothers let their kids run around white mothers smoking cigs while their kids play with fake guns ion the projects. i see black mothers smoking weed in fornt of their children evryday and the sad thng is... nobody reports the evryday bad things that happen. nobody cares about community centers or parks anymore. nobody bothers to have the light on later at these dangerous parks and nobody wants to build things for other kids to do. the problem isnt the minorities its the minorities who fit the streotype of what is assumed of them. i mean you try waling down the south corridor at night in jamaica plain you try waling near heath street on a summer night. you try waliing down blue hill ave and see if you yourself dont get mugged... this is the life we live and we are the problrem no plotician can help us nor can any reverend or pastor or father of any religious sect. the only people that can help is us! and until you guys care there are going to be poeplelike me to shed the truth. i beg the police to come to south strret and heath st projects and basically just sit in the projects sit on a bench and do something. trap poeple take evryone off the streets im sick of the lies being lived. im sick of people thinking their maiing a difference there are going to be murders because thats the way you brought your own kids up thats the way your "hood" is. when in actuality none of yall"NIGGAZ" or "homies" know what a real gangsteris. they nevr killed anyone they nevr hurt women and children and you call yourselves gangsters? what happned to a good old fistfight? of course nobody wants to see my point of view becaue its racist or biased well shut up then your blind to see your own people killing your own people your too lbind to see that parents smoking in fornt of their children and drinking i dare anyone to ome and refite this because id love to spank you in a debate. and if your wodnetring i am a latino. and no i am not racist i just see what your too scared to see... and say whats one evryones minds

tl;dr

Paragraphs

By Gareth | Sun, 07/13/2008 - 2:05pm

Have you considered that your inability to write proper English (which has paragraphs, yes, and spelling, and punctuation) may be part of the reason you are still living in a poverty stricken neighborhood?

i dont i live in jamaica

By anon (not verified) | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 1:50pm

i dont i live in jamaica plain i live in a great diverse neighborhood where bad things do happen up the street. how can you people relate can i have some ages here? becausxe im 23 and i still dont care about my proper grammar. I didnt think i was going to be critiqued for my efforts of having you guys know the real problems in the city? do any of you have children? if you have daughters do you not know that girls 13 and 14 have bf's who are 20,21, 25, and older? you guys have a big reality check coming your way. I refuse to write with proper grammar until you refuse to keep alloqwing your freimnds and families to stop shooting little kids... to stop hurting innocent people. and yes this is black people and spanish people mostly . considenrign someone just shot and killed two men in roxbury good luc finding white people there.... and another death in dorchester no white people there except for the neighborhood like around savin hill where evry white person is doped up and all that yeah at least white pople kill thmesleves and not other people...

All I was trying to say above

By Ron Newman | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 1:57pm

was "this is really hard to read. Most people won't try. If you break it up into smaller chunks, you'll reach more people and will communicate your ideas better."

Sometimes text that looks OK on paper looks terrible on a computer screen. The two media are just different.

As for the comments about white people: what? None in Roxbury? None in Dorchester except Savin Hill? Not my experience at all.

Don't worry, though

By Michael | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 2:15pm

Good Luc is looking for white people in those neighborhoods. I'd have thought he'd be celebrating Bastille Day, but what do I know?

Big Reality Check

By Gareth | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 1:58pm

I get a big reality check every two weeks. Part of the reason it's so big is I write well.

Now what was that you were trying to do? Having us guys know the real problems in the city? And you're going on strike against proper grammar until you succeed? Good luck with that.

But I will definitely stop alloqwing my freimnds. Freimnds taste better in a panko crust.

Paragraphs are important, yes

By Kaz | Sun, 07/13/2008 - 2:09pm

Paragraphs and either better spelling or better typing.

If it's difficult to read because it's a wall of text and every third letter is a typo or misspelling confusing the reader, then your message will be extremely distracted by all of the concentration the reader is putting into just trying to understand each word. I have a bigger problem with the tremendous amount of misspellings than the lack of line breaks, but together they make your post completely unintelligible for all but the most masochistic reader.

The whole point was to write it so that your message was conveyed to others, right?

anon,

Ron, Gareth and Kaz are the self-appointed Universal Hub comment style police. Whether you ask or not, they will give you advice on how you should post. You should post like this but not like that. You should put a paragraph here not there. You should post your opinion but please punctuate it properly. Etc, Etc. They will hound you if you do not comply but it's worth it just to watch them get hyper and nervous. My advice to you is pay no attention to them. Post how you post, when you want to post, the way you want to post. People who are interested will read it. Those who are not, will not. Who needs them?

It's a conspiracy

By Gareth | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 7:52am

Ron, and Kaz, your grade-school English teacher, and I are conspiring to make your life miserable. We invented something called a "paragraph" just to torture you. You may think you're breaking free by writing in a diarrheic dribble, but we'll get you yet. We're in tight with the folks who review resumes, so you'll never escape us. Mwahahahaha.

Mistaken Impression

By Suldog | Mon, 07/14/2008 - 2:35pm

Ron, et al, are trying to help. They're not just jumping on someone to get their kicks.

It's much easier to read something that has some spaces in it (commonly called "white space", and it has no racial connotation.)

Usually, correct spelling and punctuation will also help with comprehension.

Not using these valuable tools will limit your reading audience. Since they assume that you wish to have your messages read by as many folks as possible, they have given advice to make that happen.

If you don't wish to take the advice, it's no loss to them.

They're honestly trying to help you get your point across

All we know about you is the letters that appear on the screen as you have typed them. Many younger posters like yourself are unwilling to "speak" clearly, but are quick to blame the readers for not understanding.

If you sincerely want your message to be received, and for real dialog to take place, you need edit your posts. The occasional typo is forgiven (or at least affectionately teased). But most readers are unlikely to waste their time on a writer who shows so little respect for them (by making the text so difficult to read).

Reread your text before you post it. If you can't be bothered to tidy up your words, why should we bother to read them?

Or use FireFox for a browser; it will spell check as you type.

are you serious

By anon (not verified) | Thu, 07/24/2008 - 2:38pm

ok well i am going to check my work from now considering your spending more time talking about my spelling instead of going at the real problmes like the dickhead young people that do these things. there are no more community centers and to tell you the truth there are no communities in general. if young people are the problem how come they also have no say nobody pays attention to the fact that yes we need more police in heath st and dorchester and roxbury and mattapan. are you kidding me. open up your eyes society its the minorities cauusing the damage to our communities i aam hispanic but to tell you the truth its certaint spanish people certain blakc people the one that call each other "NIGGAZ" and run your pockets white boy. what? are you serious. why are minorities asking why things are happening to them when they make their own problems they open their own doors and close them as well... nobody will evr understand until they see their own daughter smoking a blunt or their own son stabbing an innocent victim. there should be stiffer penalties for youths who fit under these categories of assholes. come on downt o reality spend 20 minutes on my block by south st in jp or twenty minutes at night by my cousins house in heath st in jp or better yet try asking for directions on lenox st in south end. i ebt your white asses wont be seen in that are? why? because its dangerous wow peopkle can make assumptions based on facts?! cmon dude get a clue the police dont do shit because theyre not told to. if we had one or two plain clothed police officers in each projects facility see how many kids will keep selling weed or girls sucking guys off in the hallways... dont say it doenst happen i have seen your little whorish mouth daughters!

Got it.

By KellyJMF | Thu, 07/24/2008 - 2:52pm

So what solution do you recommend?

solutution?

By streetchildone | Tue, 08/05/2008 - 4:50pm

well there is no simple solution ... politicians never do what they say they are going to do. there are too many ghetto poeple in society today.... minoroties suck and yes i am one. The reason they suck is because we are devolving as a society and community. nobody can do anything except for the pople makiing the mistakes themselves as well as the parents. go to jackson square on any given day around 230-3 p.m. and you will see all the hoochie 12-17 year old spanish girls getting hit on by pedophile after pedophile.
if you go to heath st there something illegal going on evrywhere all day evry day. south st in jamaica plain as well its small but if only you knew how many 10 year olds i knew who smoked weed. everythng is doomed until people stop censoring words as well.... is saying nigger or spic as bad as being a nigger or spic? no of coursenot and if you odnt want these words being used odnt you think we just shoyuldnt be them? i know im all over the place but its only because im so into this... but also why did black people fight all of those years to sit iin the front of the bus. whens the last time you even saw a black person in the front of the bus usually the black gilrs are all sitting in the back being obnoxious as usual, and their bf are hanging on the handrails swinging around like goriallas that they are... BEFORE I GO ON I AM HALF BLACK HALF HISPNAIC I AM NOT RACIST I JUST SAY WHAT OTHERS WONT... there is no simple solution but having people do as they say they are going to do. i live in jmaica plain area and all the light stay on at the baseball field until 11 but the basketball court next to the agassiz school has no lights at all and what do you expect us to do at night of course were going to ride around and smoke weed and tote guns because thats what we have been CONDiTIONED TO DO, by our peers, fathers and the places we live. what else is there to do. of course our neghborhoods are segregated anyways by living costs.
