Thermos brings part of downtown to a halt as bomb squad rushes in

The Boston Business Journal reports the area between the Old State House and City Hall was cordoned off this afternoon when police received a bomb threat and spotted a "strange" electrical box in the Washington Mall - that area between the two buildings where the Newbury Comics is.

The Globe reports the device turned out to be a silver Thermos left on a bench by a construction worker. An X-ray device was brought in and used to determine the Thermos was "filled with liquid;" the Globe does not say what sort of liquid.

WOLF WOLF WOLF THERES A WOLF

At some point were all gonna get caught off guard because the BPD cant seem to tell the difference between household items/lights and bombs.

You would think the BPD could identify coffee rather easily.

why do they never tell us what was actually in it?

You know, I've always wondered- why is it that EVERY time there's one of these "it turned out to be nothing" incidents, the cops never tell us what it ACTUALLY was?

Seems like they always take the supposed bomb out to an abandoned area, blow it up...and then sternly refuse to tell us what it turned out to be.

Is this some kind of Bomb Squad Official Rule? I could swear that when I read news reports from foreign countries, the cops say something like "yeah, it was coffee", or "the suitcase was full of alarm clocks, Twizzlers, and mangoes".

Oh god, please tell me it isn't decaf!

Somewhere slackers wearing hemp clothing and playing with Lite Brite's are laughing their asses off. Who picks up the million dollar price tag on this one?
