Movie backlash

First we hear about the small protest against Mel Gibson in Roslindale. Now Sam Baltrusis tells us moviemakers are bullying slobs, in a report on the filming of Bruce Willis's movie downtown:

... [A]s someone who had to work in the center of all of the madness, the shoot became a daily ritual of being confronted by the set's production assistants who would stop me in my path as I tried to leave my office for lunch. Other people who live and work on South Street had similar horror stories when members of the film crew literally blocked them from getting to their car to leave for the day.

Link?

Adam, the link to the Bruce Willis post leads back to the Mel Gibson one. Is that on purpose? I really want to read more on this.

Why are people parked in areas that are cordoned off by studios? The studio should have reserved the street (and thus paid more money to the city), including parking spaces.

As for annoying PAs, yeah they come in droves. I've been manhandled myself. But the payoff for Boston in terms of major studios filming here is worth it in the long run. Just go to Plymouth and realize that apparently we're now "Hollywood East." (is the sign still up?)

Link here

I'm sure Adam will fix this soon enough, but I believe he was intending to link to this blog.

Thanks Huuv

Yeah, this clears the issue up for me a bit, but I still argue that a 30-day intrusion on our lives is worth it for the sake of Boston becoming "Hollywood East." Yes, it will cause inconvenience for people, as we are a densely packed city, but I certainly don't want that honor to be lost to New York. Or Wilmington, Deleware. Yes, Wilmington. They have a thriving film industry.

Methinks you missed the link

Did you mean to link to Sam's post (he has another) about the filming here:

Rather than just double-linking to UH?

And hey, just to be tangential before my coffee: who else uses Povo? I see occasional links to it, just wondering if it's really getting critical mass around the Hub or not.

Ack: Linked fixed

My apologies for the, um, URL-o.

Who uses Povo?

Critical mass would probably be generous, but we're doing ok. You can see our stats on Quantcast, though we think those are undercounting but we're not yet sure why.

Anyhoo, we're working hard to try and drive those numbers, and one of the ways is focusing on tools for bloggers and others to syndicate and easily link to our content. For example, we now do a decent job of making blind links work. If you wanted to link to Picco for example, you could just do http://boston.povo.com/Picco, even though it really "lives" on a block of Tremont Street. The system will try and find it anyway, and then ask you (the blogger in theory) if you want to make a permanent shortcut. Our goal here is to make it so that you can just use links while writing and verify them/fix them afterwards.

Any thoughts appreciated.
