Blecch: B Line
By adamg on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 9:26am
Jess Mullen, who lives in Roslindale, just got a job near Packard's Corner in Allston. That means taking a B train out from Copley. And that means being sucker punched by the B line:
... Day 1 (Tuesday): I was pissed because I was waiting at Park St and it felt like the center of the earth. NO TRAINS CAME FOR 20 MINUTES. Then when they did come, they were the D and E before the B.
Day 2 (yesterday): At BU Central, they decided the train would go non-stop to Harvard Ave. Because we were on BU campus, the ground was covered in the previous night's vomit, and the smell wafted up to all the people crowded on the ghetto platform. ...

When I worked in that area...
I took the 57 bus. Much more reliable, plus most of the people on it are adult commuters.

I think the 66 goes near there too.
It's a very hit-or-miss bus though.

The 66 only barely comes near Packard's Corner -- the closest stop is the corner of Brighton and Harvard.
66 Bus
Actually, it's probably closer to get off at Harvard & Commonwealth, and from there it's less than ten minutes' walk.
Because we were on BU
If she thinks that is bad, just wait until she gets to work.

Welcome to hell!
Take the bus, is B line isn't worth it.
Or walk! Walking usually result in getting to a destination only 5-10 min later depending on the distance... without the pent up aggression of wanting to kill someone.
Walk??
I'm all in favor of walking, and do a lot of it myself, but Roslindale to Packard's Corner is what, somewhere between 5 and 6 miles each way? That's not what I'd consider a practical walking commute even in perfect walking weather, never mind days like today, or in the middle of winter.
More of a hybrid, I think
No, walking the whole commute wouldn't work, but I think they meant just walk the B-line portion. I'd recommend purple or orange line to rugles, then 47 bus to the BU bridge, with a walk from there. The T portion is pretty reasonable speed wise, and the walk from the bridge to Packards corner is fairly short.
Of course, I think the best way from Rozzy to Packard's corner is by bike. Take the emerald necklace bike path as far as the Boylston Street overpass, then cut down Brookline ave. to Aspinwall, take Aspinwall to St. Paul, and you are then just a few blocks away from Comm Ave. via St. Paul. That would probably be a 20 to 25 minute ride, depending on where in Rozzie she is starting.

You are a brave soul. That sounds like a lot of work on a wintry day.
