The Allston scramble

Annie loves living la vida Allston, except for the part about finding a new place for Sept. 1:

... It's a mad dash for nice apartments and it's full of douchey ex-frat realtors who keep telling us that our low rent options are unfeasible and sign now sign now sign now to avoid the rush! Dianna and Allison have handled this all with grace and aplomb but I find it difficult [being a known ball-cutter doesn't help] to go from a situation where I rented from the two best owner/landlords to dealing with these kind of heinous stuffed shirts who are getting obscenely rich from the yearly scramble for housing. ...

But there is one saving grace, she adds.

Ugh, why would anyone want

Ugh, why would anyone want to love in Allston when there's much better options available?

Studios are now going for only a few hundred less then in the freaking back bay, and it’s comparable to the North End and Southie prices.…

Pus it’s trendy kid and frat rat central.

Do your self a favor and move to Somerville, Cambridge, Southie, Eastie, Charlestown or even Quincy. And if you work downtown, the commute becomes much more reasonable.

Allston is For Lovers

Best typo of the day.

A certain type of lover, perhaps

By SwirlyGrrl | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 12:10pm

The kind of lover who finds getting totally wasted and getting it on with a complete stranger behind the neighbor's shrubbery at 3am to be the epotime of "highly romantic".

Epotime?

Time for glycoprotein hormones?

(I figure since the side-thread started concerning a typo...)

BWAHAHAH!

Thanks for the laugh ... that's one that is difficult to edit by the "don't see anything wrong here" scanning method.

Maybe they used up all their oxytocin, no? They could use the EPO for better performance power ...

We know where your blog is and what it's called. Do you have to post it every time you have a comment?

It's An Option When You Register

By Suldog | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 2:48pm

That is, you can add whatever you'd like to your signature, so that it shows every time you post. So I did. I don't type it in every time. It's automatic.

I assume if there was a problem with it - many people complaining - then Adam would ask me to deep-six it. If so, I will. Never even thought of it as being possibly bothersome.

If I had a blog I would do

By ShadyMilkMan | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 3:27pm

If I had a blog I would do the same thing. I used to have a blog that got almost 100 percent readership in some areas (my house, my sisters house; she was an avid fan) but I would forget about it for weeks/months/years at a time so I gave it up.

From what Ive seen the entire point of this place is to promote local bloggers and their stories, along with some random media coverage as well, so of course some people are going to promote their blogs in this space, it only makes sense.

I see. Thank you.

It's called a "signature"

By adamg | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 5:59pm

Or sometimes ".signature" or ".sig" and it's a pretty common feature on forumish sites to let regular users (i.e., people who register for an account) have a bit of text auto-posted at the bottom of their posts.

Ive had friends who lived in

By ShadyMilkMan | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 9:06am

Ive had friends who lived in Allston-Brighton and I dont really dig the area as a place to live. It feels like a giant dorm room, which makes it a place that I like to visit, just not lay my head down at every night.

The problem is if you live anywhere else (except for maybe part of Cambridge and Arlington) your not going to be surrounded by young people which is what many young people want. The dilemma is that the dorm room feel is because you are surrounded by young people. Its a paradox to be sure.

Charlestown, South End,

By anon (not verified) | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 11:10am

Charlestown, South End, Southie, Somerville, ect.

There’s plenty of other hoods with tons of young people.

Not 18-22 year old college kids wanabe hipsters with too much of their parents money, and not enough things to do to occupy their time, but plenty of post college young professionals who still like to party.

Allston really is just one gigantic dorm room, and not a good place for those looking to move on from undergrad.

Davis Square, Somerville

By Ron Newman | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 11:59am

Go to the plaza in front of JP Licks in Davis Square on any day with nice weather. You'll see tons of young people. I'm starting to feel old there.

The Fens

By fenwayguy | Tue, 07/22/2008 - 12:04pm

Has always been a student-y neighborhood. You'll be surrounded with young people, and baseball players, too!

Hip 1, 2 and 3-br rentals from $2575 to $7500.

Gaak!! The FENWAY???

What does that even mean?
