Failed a health inspection?
That's what first comes to my mind upon seeing such a sign.
Flooding?
Nah, not in Harvard Square T Station after a week of heavy rains ...
With the business the Harvard Square DD does, maybe so...
In the mornings, that DD does heavy-duty business. That place deals in a TON of caffeine - donuts and other pastries might as well be an afterthought. In the summer, all the people from the lower bus levels and the trains charge the place for iced coffee and lattes. During the winter, the same run-for-java is for hot drinks. The morning servers are peppy, the afternoon servers less so.
I walked by that Harvard Square station DD yesterday afternoon and it had a bare skeleton crew and no lights. If Cambridge's stringent health and safety rules are any indication, that DD can't do business. I would also lean towards your theory - the Cambridge Health inspectors made a surprise inspection, found several things lacking, and forced them to close until the stuff was up to code.
One has to wonder if that
One has to wonder if that has affected the waiting times at Tealux, Au Bon Pain, Z Square , Crema Cafe, Starbucks, The other Dunks and all the other places in the square that serve coffee and similar items. That Dunks does a ton of business in a very fast efficient manner, it would be interesting to see where all those people went for their fix.
Dunkin's is leaving Stop &
Dunkin's is leaving Stop & Shop, to be replaced by Starbucks.
Which is bizarre because these will be new Starbucks, even though they're closing 600 stores nationally. Will Boston be the only place where there is Starbuck's expansion?
However, that closing is offset by
the new Dunkies about to open in Wakefield (they took over the old Coffee Break store on North Ave), so the balance is restored.
