At least Vitale appeared to be doing something to earn the money he was pulling in as a result of his relationship with Sal DiMasi. I'm hard pressed, after reading the Globe story, to see what, if anything Kelly did for his monthly three grand other than serve as Tim Cahill's neighbor, friend and fund-raiser.

Quality of scratch tickets?
What does it mean for scratch tickets to have 'quality' ?
Too bad we can't go back in time
Because if we could, I'd set the time-o-meter to last night, around 11, when I stopped in at the White Hen Pantry in West Roxbury, which was surprisingly crowded with exactly three kinds of people:
50ish and 60ish chain smokers (well, not in the store, but you could just tell) feverishly scratching out their tickets ("Excuse me, ma'am, what makes a quality scratch ticket for you?"), early-20s dudes buying exactly one bottle of soda each, and me (buying some chocolate ice cream for daughter with sore throat).
Never disturb a dog when he's eating
Is the advice I'd follow when it comes to approaching people and their scratch tickets.
