Latest stats from Boston Police show a 13.8% drop in crimes against people and vehicles for the year so far, as compared to the same period last year. All sorts of crimes, including murder, rape and aggravated assault are down. Motor-vehicle thefts and attempted car thefts are down 36%.

Some neighborhoods do show increases in certain crimes. For example, murders are up from 6 to 17 in north Dorchester (but down from 30 to 13 in Roxbury); rapes jumped from 28 to 43 in Allston/Brighton and Fenway/Kenmore.
