Imagine a world without a Fabric Place

TranquilityKnots is not so tranquil because she's just learned the Fabric Place stores in Framingham and Woburn are closing:
What a shame! Why??? Where am I supposed to get what I need then? I guess we still have Jo-Ann, but it's not as convenient for me. ... Maybe I can give some of those fabulous online fabric stores a try. But still really sad! ...

Say it isn't sew!
I've been going there for years to get random remnants for upholstering chairs and such. I also go there to get things for costumes for school pagents and Halloween.
I guess I'd better ask the boys now what they want for costumes so we can get there before it closes.
Never understood what the
Never understood what the big deal was with Fabric Place. Yes, they had lots of stuff for the knitter and other crafts but I was never impressed with their supplies or fabrics for dressmaking. And the snootiness of the sales staff was the biggest turnoff, not to mention the prices. $4.00/yd for muslin?????
The kind folks at Winmill on Chauncey Street in Chinatown have always been more than helpful; they were my go-to source for advice and needs since I was in design school. They even carry a decent selection of wool suiting for menswear. Their random remnant supply of upholstery fabric is pretty good, too. I've made many a Renaissance costume from their supply.
If you want another location for home decorating fabrics, check out Zimman's on Market Street in Lynn. It's really easy; right off the Lynnway at the Lynn exit. Great selection and a trim section that makes your mouth water!

Dec. 31:
My wife got the fabric for her wedding dress (which she made herself) at the Framingham store.
Wedding dress
Now that you mention it, the pattern and one of the two fabrics used for my wedding dress came from that Fabric Place as well (the other fabric was a high-quality silk velvet special-ordered from Hong Kong via a friend.)
Because of the velvet, which requires sewing machine skills I don't have, I ended up hiring a dressmaker to do the assembly.
Me too
I didn't do my wedding dress, but my maid of honor and I made the veil and vests for all the men in the wedding party from fabric et al. from the Framingham store.
Whenever I take the commuter rail out to see my folks, I include a stop at the Fabric Place in my schedule.
