East Boston doesn't want a heliport, either

News that Tom Menino will consider moving a proposed heliport from South Boston to East Boston doesn't sit well with Eastie resident Jimbo:

... Will the mayor be equally deferential to the wishes of East Boston's elected officials? And does the will of "business leaders" trump the will of the local citizenry?

When that "anything" is an international airport and this facility would be built for people who would then have to take surface transport to get to where they wanted to go, I think the locals have a case to make.

Eastie already does its share.

Exactly, East Boston is already home to Logan airport and all the air traffic/road traffic that brings with it no need to add anymore noise to the mix. Massport has a hard enough time keeping up with the demand for more sound proofing mitigation as it is.

Also I think it would make more sense to put the heliport in a place with a little less air traffic then East Boston, it might make it easier for take offs and landings.

If the heliport is part of Logan, wouldn't its customers take the same surface transport as all the other airport customers? Massport shuttles, Blue Line, Silver Line, water taxis.

Are the clients of this service headed to the Airport? or to the Downtown/Back Bay/Seaport areas?

If it is the former, it makes no sense to put this service at the airport because the limo-miles travelled will be much higher than they would be coming from the south. I somehow doubt this facility will generate much public transit demand. It will most certainly generate additional limo traffic.

Also, shady, helicopters add noise even to noisy places and add noise at different times of day - noise is considered a potential confounder in air pollution studies, and heliports add to noise, even in noisy areas.
