Sabotage at the Herald

The Boston Business Journal reports somebody this morning damaged the conveyor system that moves newspapers from the printing presses to waiting delivery trucks. The incident comes about two weeks before the paper is due to shut the presses and move printing to Chicopee.

The Journal also reports that you'll be able to instantly identify the new Chicopee Herald because the pages will be smaller.

When they start printing the Herald in Chicopee ...

what is that going to do to the Herald's timeliness and relevancy? Seems like deadlines will have to be hours earlier to allow for trucking the paper all the down the Pike.

Previous story detailing the move

It says it will be at Chicopee everyday except for Friday. Do you think everyone at the plant over there gets Friday off of something? Fridays will be handled in a plant in Norwood. I also found it funny that they approached the Globe and tried to strike a deal to have the Globe print the Herald, and the Globe declined lol. Oh why oh why would the Globe ever decline to print the Herald!

I think losing 2 inches might not be a bad thing if its done right. It could make the Herald more readable on the subway. It is already easier to read then the Globe (which is an utter nightmare to read unless your sitting at a desk) and its not like they couldnt find things to cut, half the time the first 5 pages are covered in tabloid graphics and comparisons between Boston and New York featuring baseball teams and chowders anyway.

Isn't the Globe getting rid of a printing press in Billerica?

Seems to me that a deal to print the Herald there would have been beneficial to both papers. Billerica's a lot closer to Boston than Chicopee is.

Chicopee is the WSJ plant

If the Herald wanted to lose a few inches, why not drop Howie Carr? OH HO HO IT IS FUNNY

No, not the conveyor belts!

Channel 4 has more details: 15 conveyor belts slashed, and more.
