Greenway after dark
Today was the official opening of the Rose Kennedy Greenway - and the second-to-last night of Boston Illuminale. I took a stroll along the Greenway this evening (others took in the new linear park this afternoon - see tons of photos). A big hit among kids and teens was this lit-up mist generator. I wonder if TriGen sponsored it?
The Custom House was lit up even more than usual, as was the Flour and Grain Exchange building:
Rowes Wharf remains stunning as ever:
Also popular among people who haven't lost a fear of getting soaked, even on a brisk October evening: The spiral fountain by the Aquarium, with its seemingly random jets that make running across it an adventure.

Doesn't feel like steam
I walked through that thing tonight, and it wasn't the least bit warm.
OK, mist then
Yeah, it wasn't warm. What time where you there?
When I was there
I was on the Greenway for much of the day, from 11 to 2:30 and again from 5:30 to 9 pm. I walked through the fog sculpture after the Landmarks Orchestra concert ended, so around 8:45. When were you there?
Earlier
I was there for the jazz (?) performance before the orchestra.
Just mist
When we walked by the sculpture mid-afternoon, there were some people there and the kids were keen on seeing how the "steam" came out. One of them called out to a parent, "It's not steam, Dad. It's just mist." I was trying to remember, does the ring fountain mist too? I recall seeing some synchronized fountain do that recently.
Later on: Mmmm. Cider donuts....
Looks cool and all, but?
But what about the whole "saving energy, lights out" deal? I know it was for the upper floors of the tallest buildings, but it seems sort of hypocritical to say on one hand that the city is going to push hard to have everyone start saving power...and then on the other hand, let's have a light festival where we illuminate gigantic attributes around the city for a week.
