Ripping the covers off Boston magazine

Donn Saylor's mother-in-law gave him a subscription to Boston for Christmas. He quickly realized it was a fun, if vapid Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous for the provincial set, but now he wonders why the magazine is openly mocking people who make less than its readers, with its Envy issue, featuring such people as:

... Dane Cook. Douchebag comedian who has, inexplicably, become a movie star. Yes, they’re right: I envy his "Unfunniest Comic" award by a local radio station. ...

Spoiling the Red Sox

By deselby | Fri, 10/10/2008 - 12:46am

I live in Boston, so I don't read Boston, which is a magazine for the tonier suburbs.

The quote made me realize why the insipid Red Sox cult and its corporate sponsors is spoiling the Red Sox for me:

The Boston, Massachusetts, you find in Boston magazine is the Denver, Colorado, you find on Dynasty. Except John Forsythe is now a wealthy investment banker with a condo in the city, a McMansion in Newton, and a compound on the Cape. Linda Evans is a spoiled social climber (wait…wasn’t she always?) who does “power yoga” and volunteers at the local no-kill animal shelter (as long as she doesn’t have to actually touch the animals). And Joan Collins is a filthy-rich gay man — which isn’t much of a stretch, really. And, like everyone else in this city (besides me), rich or poor, they all worship the Red Sox.

Things were better when Frank Malzone was at third base and the Red Sox drew 10,000 on a good day. Now, give me the Brockton Rox.
