Globe reducing sections again

On page B8 of today's Globe is a full-page house ad announcing that as of Friday, October 24, the weekday and Saturday Globe will contain four sections: Main News, Metro, Sports, and something called "g".
That last section appears to be a combination of Sidekick with the various days' soft feature sections (Living/Arts, Movies, Food, Style, etc.). I'm guessing this will be a tabloid section like the current Sidekick, but the announcement doesn't say.
Notably absent is any mention of a Business section. At a time of economic turmoil, does it really make sense for the Globe to drop this coverage?

Built into news?
Given the importance of economic news these days, it might actually make sense to blend the two.
Wait, did I actually just defend something the Globe is doing?

But now I'm also wondering what will happen to the Science and Health section that currently runs on Mondays.
Going Metro
They'll probably just provide "buzz" stories from Reuters and AP a-la The Metro. It sounds more like they're cutting the actual journalism while trying to preserve the core topics which can be addressed with the feed-news.
Disappointing, but as someone who does not subscribe or regularly read any newspapers, ... I won't miss it.
Sidekick sucked anway
I remember when Sidekick came out and it was awful then.
*sigh* the poor Globe.

Business in Metro
It mentions that business news will be in the Metro section. (And they are adding color comics during the week! Not sure why they are bothering with that.)

Somehow I missed that. But I wonder if this will mean less coverage of non-local business.
Combining all entertainment-related content into one daily section makes a lot of sense. I wonder why it took the Globe this long to realize it.
Comics
That's not their doing. Universal Press Syndicate is making a strong push to have most or all of their weekday comics appear in color whenever possible.
Reading business section in last month
I must say that I've been reading the Globe's business section far more frequently and more in-depth during the past month than at any other time. Getting rid of that section would be a nutty decision.
Probably what they are doing instead is to follow the Saturday Globe's current practice: print the Business section within another section (usually City/Region) starting around page five.
Wouldn't be missed
If the Globe's idea of "business news" runs along the lines of recent Boston.com stories such as "How are Red Sox fans dealing with the economic slowdown", then really, will it be missed?
I kind of hate those short
I kind of hate those short sections anyway. I'd rather pull out something with a little more heft and more in it. So, I guess I approve of the change. At least they're not going tabloid.

I understand that Rupert Murdoch now owns US business news.
little g
The new "g" section will be sized much like the Sidekick, though it will be more content heavy. The pitch is that this will make it easier to find arts related news as it will all be in one place every day instead of bouncing around. Its definetly not a mini-me paper like a Metro inside a Globe or anything. Its a repackaging of existing coverage. Time will tell if it remains as comprehensive, but right now the Globe is insisting that coverage will not be cut back inside little g.

And will the section be in the same place in the paper each day? Shouldn't there be a dedicated g spot?
Too bad he's a sportswriter, because otherwise the right person for the job would be Michael Gee.

And will the people who write for this section
be known as the g force?
If they're really good
they could be known as a G Whiz.
