Police: Man with hammer goes berserk at Cantab Lounge

Cambrige Police report that a man with a hammer tried using it on employees at the Cantab Lounge in Central Square yesterday afternoon, but that one worker managed to get the hammer away from him before he could actually smash anyone.

Police say when they arrived, Robert Paul McCoy, 48, of Cambridge, was still standing right in front of the Cantab, where they arrested him for assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

About two hours later, police returned to Central Square to arrest two women who were slugging each other on Mass. Ave., "causing a crowd to gather."

A man walking down Harvard Street by the Green Rose Heritage Park around 10:20 Tuesday morning told police two young black guys attempted to rob him but that he managed to escape.

Over in Harvard Square, meanwhile, police say they found a bloodied and bruised man on Eliot St. around 2:30 a.m. He told police two white guys jumped him and began beating him for no reason.

Innocent, etc.

How can someone who isn't a licensed contractor simply walk into a Home Depot and buy such a deadly weapon with no background check or waiting period?

At the very least, Massachusetts should pass a law making it illegal to attack people with a hammer.

Oh, wait...

They should have to pay $100 to have the honor of passing a hammer-attack test at Moon Island before being able to even have one in their own home!

No wonder they took him away. You're only supposed to hammer in the morning or in the evening.
