Bail set at $500,000 for Shattuck patient charged with raping teen volunteer

Vernon Lee Thompson pleaded innocent today to charges he twice raped a 14-year-old volunteer at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in July, according to a statement by the Suffolk County DA's office.

He was ordered held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail in Suffolk Superior Court.

According to prosecutors, the psychiatric patient put his arm around the teen - whom he had talked to before - led her to an area with no security cameras, then raped her twice.

The Herald has more.

Innocent, etc.

Poor girl

This was a very harsh lesson in why one should never trust strangers, especially ones who are psychiatric patients.

One also has to ask why there were no security cameras in the hospital stairways? It seems that the stairways would be one of the most important areas to monitor with security cameras.

This is absolutely sick!

The guy who raped this vulnerable 14 year old girl definitely belongs behind bars! Hope they put him away for a long, long time.

For those who advocate the death penalty; what good what that do? There'll always be someone to take the offenders' place, and besides, when a state has the power to execute people, it's putting itself down to the same level of brutality.

Thanks Miki

What's with the sarcasm?

Frankly, eeka, your sarcasm's rather uncalled for....and tiresome, to boot.

Wasn't sarcasm

Just glad to see you. How're things?

It's all good, eeka.

How're you?

Groovy

I'm good. Are you doing any open studios or anything fun this summer?

Wow

You're good.

My Mikidar is astute

What can I say?

Nice to know there is some

Nice to know there is some consistency in this crazy world!!!!!!

Also seems our little Miki is growing up, what with the use of multiple html tags and some appropriate punctuation!!!!

Is he planning an insanity defense, I wonder?

A hideous crime, but he obviously has some history of mental problems.
