Carlyn Hutchins reports that Emack & Bolio's is ending its longstanding open-mike night, which she ran, effective immediately:
... So, I will be taking some time to try and decide if I should find another venue. It's clear that an open mike at an ice cream shop is not going to work year round, and I'm tired of owners yanking me (and you) around. I think it's also clear that in these tough economic times, sometimes tough decisions have to be made, and I think we just fell victim to that, nothing more, nothing less. ...

new open mic night in roslindale
Music Returns to Roslindale! Calling all Open Mikers! By virtue of the physical, spiritual, and monetary support of music-fan Neal Braverman, the Roslindale Open Mike brings music back to Roslindale. Neal has arranged for an open mike to happen on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the Roslindale Congregational Church, 26 Cummins Highway, Roslindale MA, 02131. This is diagonally across from Post Office near Roslindale Square which makes it very close to the former site of Carlyn Hutchins open mike at Emack and Bolios. It's also not far from Ana Eder-Mulhane's open mike at Java Jo's in Jamaica Plain. Opening Night will be Monday January 12, 2009.
All are Welcome!! No Cover!!
The Open Mike sign up will begin at 6:30, the open mike starts at 7:00, with our evening feature act at 8PM. I'm hoping that there will be enough interest to keep the music rolling until around 10PM.
All refreshments will be at NO COST but there will be a donation basket on the refreshment table, all of which will be redirected to the church to thank them for offering this great venue. I am honored that Neal asked me to feature on the opening night and to be the host for subsequent open mikes. I'm looking forward to helping Neal achieve his goal of a vibrant and supportive night of music and I invite you to come out and be a part of it. As this Open Mike develops Neal (neal@roslindaleopenmike.com) and we ask you to make suggestions on how to make the nights better and better.

I must admit I am remiss in replying to this comment made by Carlyn Hutchins from the old Emack's Open Mike!!
I simply do not get on line very often and when I do I am not very computer savvy!!!
It was great while it lasted but Now and since 1-12-09 Roslindale Open Mike has been a wonderful respite for any and all Open Miker's.
The talent has been incredible, the crowds better than ever and with each new Venue there is a new first time!!!
